Gabe Vincent is expected to return to the Lakers lineup on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets. The LakeShow has won five games in a row and is in 9th place at 41-32, only 1.5 games behind the Sacramento Kings for the 8th seed.
Vincent has only appeared in five games this season due to a knee injury. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on December 27th, with his last game coming on December 20th.
Gabe Vincent is out tomorrow vs. Indiana but will be joining the team for the game, per the Lakers. https://t.co/tK4iMIg7mK
— Jovan Buha (@jovanbuha) March 28, 2024
Vincent has not played well, averaging 5/1/3 with 1.2 steals. He has shot very inefficiently, with 38/12/50 shooting splits.
In the offseason, he signed a three-year $33 million deal to be the Purple and Gold's lead guard off the bench. However, with Spencer Dinwiddie signed on the buyout market, that may not be the case.
With that said, let’s break down how Vincent’s return will impact the Lakers’ rotation.
Darvin Ham will likely shorten his rotation over the next nine games with the playoffs approaching.
Second-year guard Max Christie is having a solid season, averaging 5/2/1 on 43/37/77 shooting splits. Christie has played well on both ends of the floor, but his minutes have dropped over the last few games.
Christie wasn’t a part of the playoff rotation last season, and he likely won’t be this season, either.
f*ck it, Gabe Vincent playoff highlights pic.twitter.com/rOhmyeG52D
— NBALakersReport (@NBALakersReport) March 7, 2024
Vincent could take Christie’s minutes in the rotation and become another ball-handler and defender off the bench. The 27-year-old played exceptionally well on the Miami Heat’s run to the NBA Finals last season, averaging 13/1/4 on 40/38/88 shooting splits.
Vincent’s offense and shooting helped Miami, knocking down shots in key situations.
Vincent was also impactful on defense as a point-of-attack defender. Although he hasn’t played well this season, Vincent is a proven playoff player and has the final stretch of the regular season to prove he should be in the rotation in the postseason.
Look for Ham to give Christie’s minutes off the bench to Vincent, and he could be a crucial rotational piece on their late-season surge up the standings.
]]>The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks on the road 128-124 Tuesday night in double overtime, overcoming a 19-point deficit with eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Without LeBron James, LA understood the tall task ahead and was counting on guards D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves to have big performances in the King’s absence.
Reaves and DLO combined for a 58-21-22 line alongside Davis' 34-point 23 rebound night. Fortunately, by hitting big shots and strapping up defensively, the Purple and Gold could sneak their second win of the season against Milwaukee.
Let’s dive into our two key takeaways from tonight’s victory and what it means going forward.

Fourth Quarter Defense
This Lakers team seemingly loves a good comeback, as we’ve seen their ability to overcome early deficits late in games on multiple occasions.
The LakeShow overcame a similar deficit against the Clippers in February, outscoring them by 23 points in the fourth quarter en route to a four-point victory.
The only difference is that LeBron James carried that comeback with 19 fourth-quarter points.
We saw a similar display last night, only the stars were different. Austin Reaves and D’Angelo Russell supplemented Anthony Davis’ production tremendously at the end of this game, locking up the Bucks’ stars and scoring the basketball efficiently.
AUSTIN REAVES FOR THE LEAD! pic.twitter.com/jqKbo657Hb
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) March 27, 2024
Reaves and DLO scored 16 and 11 points, respectively, in the fourth quarter and overtime periods, holding Damian Lillard to 4-15 from the field, while Anthony Davis chipped in an additional 16 points and held Giannis Antetokounmpo to six points in that same span.
LA limited Milwaukee to 28.6% from the field and 11.1% from three-point range in the fourth quarter, holding them to only 13 points.
This strong defense continued through the overtime periods, limiting the Bucks to 26.7% from the field in overtime.
Ultimately, if the Lakers are going to come back from significant deficits in the future, they must focus on slowing opponents down on the defensive end and capitalizing off their inefficiencies on offense.
Free Throw Efficiency
Los Angeles shot the ball exceptionally well from the charity stripe Tuesday night, going 30/32 or 93.8%.
The Lakers have been middle of the pack in this category throughout the season at 77.9% but have been solid at getting opportunities at the free throw line, averaging the third most free throws attempted per game at 24.2 and making the fifth most at 18.9.
In wins this season, the LakeShow averages over four more points, shooting 5% higher from the free throw line than in losses.
Free throws can be absolutely critical in these close games, as seen from Tuesday night, and strong shooting performances will continue to propel us past teams that don’t capitalize at the line.

Milwaukee shot just 64.7% from the free throw line in this game, making only 11 of 17 attempts. If the Lakers can continue to draw contact, get to the free throw line, and make their shots, they can count on being competitive almost every game.
The 40-32 Lakers sit as the ninth seed in the Western Conference, only two games back of the seventh seed and three games back of the sixth. LA will look to extend their four-game win streak tonight in Memphis.
]]>On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers 150-145, improving their record to 39-32.
The Lakers have now established a three-game winning streak but remain two games behind the Mavericks and Kings for the 8th seed.
The Lakers' offensive performance was historic, as their 150 points marked their highest point total in a game since 1987.
The entire starting lineup did well, as Spencer Dinwiddie, Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis all had 20+ point games.

— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) March 25, 2024
AD led the pack with 36 points off of 71% shooting from the field, as well as 16 rebounds. LeBron also added a solid 26 and 10, marking two double-doubles on the night for LA's superstars.
Spencer Dinwiddie got his second start of the season as a Laker, as D'Angelo Russell missed the game due to a non-Covid illness.
The increase in minutes led to his first breakout performance of the season, as he scored 26 points while shooting 8-11 from the field.
Austin Reaves also played a big role, scoring 25/8/5, including an 11-12 effort from the free-throw line. He remained clutch late in the game, as his six free throws in the final minute helped the Lakers maintain their lead.
Despite such an outstanding offensive performance, the Lakers struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball. On most nights, allowing 145 points to the opposing team should lead to a loss by a relatively wide margin.

While the Lakers had a comfortable lead for most of the game, the fourth quarter was when things started to get out of hand defensively. The Lakers went into the fourth with a 116-99 lead, but the Pacers proceeded to put up 46 points in the quarter to cut the lead down to just five points.
The Pacers' big men both had great games. Pascal Siakam scored 36/8/12 off of 55% shooting, and Myles Turner scored 20 points, 12 of which came from downtown.
It was apparent early on that the absence of D'Angelo Russell was a big hit to the Lakers defensively, as they had one less body that could help defend the perimeter.
Haliburton gave the backcourt issues at the end of the game, and TJ McConnell scored 17 points off the bench.

With the NBA playoffs just 11 games away for the Lakers, fans should be encouraged that the team is playing some of its best offensive basketball at this point in the season.
Despite their struggles earlier in the year, it now appears that they just needed time to grow as a group.
However, they still lack the offensive firepower to overcome lackluster defensive performances like this come playoff time. The team is desperately missing Jarred Vanderbilt, who is expected to return before the playoffs start.
Despite this, the Lakers came away with a win in one of the most entertaining games of the season. The team showed what they could do at their offensive peak and will hopefully continue this momentum heading into the playoffs.
]]>The (38-32) Los Angeles Lakers face off against the (40-31) Indians Pacers tonight in an In-Season Tournament Championship rematch as the Lakers aim to extend their two-game win streak.

Defensive Intensity
Much of the purple and gold’s recent success has been their tenacity and efficiency on the defensive end. The Lakers have held their last two opponents to a mere 94 and 105 points, respectively, on 33.3 and 42.9 FG%.
LA’s ability to limit their opponents’ three-point production has been critical to their defensive production, restricting the 76ers and Hawks to 21.6 and 22.0 3P%.
The Lakers' defensive rating has been subpar over the past month, sitting at 24th in the association at 116.1.
Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers has not been shooting efficiently from three-point land as of late, possibly making room for the Lakers to capitalize on their recent strength.
Look for the Lakers to restrict the Pacers’ three-point shooting and ultimately curb their offensive production en route to a strong defensive victory.

DLO and 3-Point Production
Since the All-Star Break, the Lakers have been unbeatable when point guard D’Angelo Russell shoots well from beyond the arc.
DLO is shooting 44% from three-point range post-All-Star and has carried the Lakers to several victories off incredible three-point scoring.
This has led the Lakers to be one of the best three-point shooting teams in this span, shooting second-best % in the league at 40.7%.
The Lakers’ shooting numbers dipped in losses this season, shooting 35.1% compared to 40.0% in wins.
Fortunately, the Pacers have been abysmal defensively this season, sitting at 25th in the league at 117.6. They additionally have been poor at defending the three-pointer, sitting at 20th in the league this year, allowing 36.9% from beyond the arc.
If Russell can shoot well from deep tonight, we should continue our streak of shooting well in wins and get the win tonight.

The Purple and Gold have 13 games remaining and hold a half-game lead over the Golden State Warriors for ninth place in the Western Conference. They are 3.5 games behind the Dallas Mavericks, the sixth seed.

Feed Anthony Davis early and often
Anthony Davis needs to impose his will and dominate tonight against Philadelphia’s bigs. Mo Bamba and Paul Reed are their rotational bigs, while star Joel Embiid is out with an injury.
Bamba has the frame at seven foot to defend Davis but doesn’t have the foot speed or skill to match up.
The other big, Reed, is undersized at six foot nine, which gives Davis a clear advantage. Reed is a solid defender, but Davis should dominate him down low in the post.
Davis is having a great season, averaging 24/12/4 with 1.2 steals and 2.4 blocks. He has excellent shooting splits at 55/27/81.
Darvin Ham must have the offensive gameplan go through Davis against the 76ers.
Tyrese Maxey has 20 games of scoring 30 points or more this season, the most by a player age 23 or younger in Sixers history since Allen Iverson's rookie season 👀 pic.twitter.com/uYNtiFUlrl
— ClutchPoints (@ClutchPoints) March 19, 2024
Limit Tyrese Maxey
Tyrese Maxey is Philadelphia’s best player and top scorer with Embiid out. Maxey is having a phenomenal campaign, averaging 26/4/6 on 45/38/87 shooting splits.
The 23-year-old guard made it to his first All-Star Game this season with his great play. Maxey can score at all three levels with the ability to create his own shot and space the floor well from three.
The 76ers offense will be disrupted if the Lakers can contain Maxey.
Austin Reaves or D’Angelo Russell will get the early matchup on Maxey in the starting lineup. While they are not known for their defense, coming out with energy on that end of the floor can help them tremendously.
Taurean Prince (personal reasons) won’t play tonight against Philly.
— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) March 22, 2024
Point-of-attack defenders Cam Reddish and Max Christie will get increased minutes with Taurean Prince out for personal reasons. Reddish and Christie could be crucial in containing Maxey.
The Purple and Gold need a win streak to surge up the standings. A win over the Sixers would give LA a two-game win streak heading into Sunday, where they take on the Indiana Pacers.
Ham and his staff must prioritize getting the ball to Davis on offense and limiting Maxey on defense.
]]>There is ‘internal optimism’ within the Lakers organization that forward Jarred Vanderbilt will return before the Lakers’ final regular-season game on April 14th, per Jovan Buha.
Vanderbilt suffered a foot injury back on February 1st, which has kept him off the court.

— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) March 22, 2024
The 24-year-old forward has only appeared in 28 games, averaging 5/5/1 with 1.2 steals per game. He has 52/30/67 shooting splits this season.
While Vanderbilt hasn’t put up huge numbers, the stats don’t show his impact. Vanderbilt is the Lakers best point-of-attack defender, limiting top opposing guards and forwards. His rebounding has also been missed, both on the offensive and defensive side of the floor.
Getting Vanderbilt back healthy would help the Purple and Gold’s defense improve. They have struggled against perimeter players and three-point shooters.
Vanderbilt can defend against the opposing team’s best perimeter players while making all the hustle plays.
The LakeShow is in 9th place in the Western Conference at 37-32 with 13 games left. Getting some reinforcements to help out on defense, like Vanderbilt, during the final push could be the difference in how the Lakers finish the season.
]]>According to Marc Stein, Lakers backup point guard Gabe Vincent is nearing a return and intends to play again this season, barring any setbacks.
Vincent has only appeared in five games due to a knee injury. The 27-year-old underwent arthroscopic surgery in his left knee in late December.
Lakers G Gabe Vincent is nearing a return and intends to play again this season barring any setbacks, league sources tell @TheSteinLine.
— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) March 19, 2024
Vincent has played in just 5 games as a Laker and underwent arthroscopic surgery (left knee) in late December.
More: https://t.co/A6ycVmnrjq
LA signed Vincent to a three-year $33 million deal in the offseason. He was signed to be a point-of-attack defender and shooter off the bench for the LakeShow. However, injuries have kept him off the court.
In the five games he’s played, Vincent has struggled. He is averaging 5/1/3 on 38/12/50 shooting splits.
Although his shooting splits are exceptionally low, he proved last season that he can be impactful on offense when it matters most. Vincent was pivotal in the Miami Heat’s run to the NBA Finals.
This is positive news for the Purple and Gold who have faced many injury woes.
It will be interesting to see how Darvin Ham implements Vincent, especially with the midseason pickup of Spencer Dinwiddie, who has taken on the backup point guard role.
]]>Lakers forward/center Christian Wood will undergo an arthroscopic procedure in his left knee, which will sideline him for several weeks, per Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin.
Wood has been out with this injury since February 14th. Prior to his injury, Wood appeared in 50 games, averaging 7/5/1 on 47/31/70 shooting splits.
The 28-year-old was an impactful big off the bench for LA but struggled with his efficiency.
ESPN Sources with @McTen: Los Angeles Lakers F Christian Wood will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. The Lakers final regular season game is April 14. pic.twitter.com/4SVNc3qJO4
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) March 19, 2024
In his absence, Jaxson Hayes has seen increased minutes as the primary backup center behind Anthony Davis. Hayes has played well, but the Lakers hope Wood will return by the play-in tournament.
As the 10th seed in the West, LA is likely to remain in the play-in. With injuries, especially in the frontcourt, they could use Wood back in the lineup. Jarred Vanderbilt, Cam Reddish, and Gabe Vincent remain out with their respective injuries.
The Lakers will look to climb up the standings and avoid the play-in tournament. The LakeShow will hope to get Wood back sooner rather than later as a reinforcement for their playoff run.
]]>The 36-32 Los Angeles Lakers are at home tonight, ready to face the 30-37 Atlanta Hawks.
Coming off back-to-back losses in Sacramento and at home to Golden State, the Lakers sit as the tenth seed in the Western Conference, just three games back of the sixth seed with 14 games to go in the regular season.
Atlanta took home the victory in the first of the two matchups between these teams this season, scoring 138 points in the absence of superstar Anthony Davis.
Tonight, the LakeShow will look to start their playoff push, in what hopes to be a convincing win for Los Angeles. Let’s dive into our two keys to victory for tonight.

Hawks’ Defensive Struggles
The Atlanta Hawks have been a solid team offensively this season, ranking tenth in offensive rating at 117.0; however, they’ve struggled defensively, ranking third worst in defensive rating at 118.5.
Their transition defense accounts for a large portion of Atlanta’s defensive issues, as they allow the third most fastbreak points per game at 16.7. Their halfcourt defense has been inefficient, allowing the third-highest FG% and 3P% at 49.3 and 38.3, respectively.
Fortunately for the Hawks, they have been a better defensive team since the All-Star break, improving their defensive rating to 110.8 in this time.
Though Atlanta has been stronger on the defensive end during this span, they are still susceptible to poor defensive outings, averaging a 121.5 defensive rating in losses compared to 100.0 in wins.
The Hawks’ defense did not allow a made Clippers field goal from 8:56 in the third quarter to 11:01 in the fourth quarter (span of 9:55). Per Elias Sports, it’s the first time since 5/5/21 vs. Phoenix the club did not allow a field goal in a near 10-minute span.
— Hawks PR (@HawksPR) March 18, 2024
Streakiness in this category has been a particular weakness for this Hawks team, limiting opponents to 39.9% from the field and 30.8% from three in wins post-All-Star break, numbers that bump up to 50.1% and 42.3% in losses.
The Lakers have been a solid offensive team at home since the All-Star break, averaging a 120.3 offensive rating in this span.
Shooting 52.0% from the field and 42.2% from three in home games during this stretch, the Lakers will lean on offensive playmakers such as Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and D’Angelo Russell to complement Anthony Davis and LeBron James to exploit the Hawks’ defensive problems.
Expect a dominant offensive night for the purple and gold.

Take Care of Business
With 14 games to go, the Lakers need to win every game to record 50 wins.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem too realistic; however, looking ahead at the strength of schedule moving forward for this team, there are only a couple of games against top opponents.
Tonight, as 8.5-point favorites in a matchup against a losing team at home, the Lakers will need to keep their foot on the gas and keep the energy up in a game they are expected to win.
Ultimately, LA should have no problems dominating this Hawks team offensively and will need to play energetic defense to ensure Atlanta can’t keep up.
With a win tonight and a Warriors loss, the Lakers will slide back up into the ninth seed, building momentum for their final 13 games.
Expect Crypto.com arena to be loud tonight as the Lakers start their home stretch.
]]>The Lakers have signed 2017 first-round pick Harry Giles to a two-way contract. The Purple and Gold have needed more size with Christian Wood, Colin Castleton, and Jarred Vanderbilt out.
To make this move, LA has waived Dylan Windler, who appeared in eight games with the team.
Lakers are signing Harry Giles III to a two-way deal and waiving Dylan Windler. Team is adding frontcourt size as insurance with Christian Wood dealing with knee swelling and Colin Castleton having fractured his wrist.
— Dan Woike (@DanWoikeSports) March 2, 2024
Giles has appeared in 16 games with the Brooklyn Nets this season, averaging 3/2/0 on 50/27/54 shooting splits.
The 25-year-old has struggled to find a consistent role in the NBA. However, he is talented, and with his six-foot-ten frame, he will provide the depth that the Lakers need at big.
Giles likely won’t see a ton of minutes, but this is a solid signing to help the LakeShow have enough depth in the frontcourt.
The Lakers take on the reigning champion Denver Nuggets on Saturday, riding in on a two-game win streak. Giles may play some minutes amid the injuries to Wood and Castleton.
]]>According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, LeBron James is angling to opt-in to his $51.4 million player option and sign a two-year max extension. James would then be under contract with the LakeShow for three more seasons.
The 39-year-old forward has spent six seasons with the Lakers, and a new deal could solidify him finishing his career with the Purple and Gold.
Per Brian Windhorst: LeBron James will likely opt into his contract and sign another 2 year super max contract with the Lakers. #LakeShow

Despite his age, James still plays at an elite level, averaging 25/7/8 on 52/40/74 shooting splits. He has also been healthy, appearing in 51 of the team’s 59 games thus far.
While James is one of the greatest players ever, there is a risk to a multi-year max contract at his age. It would also be a maximum contract that would pay James $60 million annually.
One significant injury to a player nearing 40 could end a career. However, Father Time has not caught up to James yet, and he works hard with conditioning to avoid injuries.
James and Anthony Davis are still among the best duos in the league. Re-signing James would keep this duo together as they work towards a second title together and the 18th in Lakers history.
]]>The 30-26 Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Utah Jazz 138-122 Wednesday night on the second night of their back-to-back, following their victory over the Pistons on Tuesday.

Only 3.5 games out of the playoff picture, let’s dive into our two key takeaways from this back-to-back for the rest of the season.
THE LAKERS ARE OFF TO A 6-1 START IN FEBRUARY 😈🔥 pic.twitter.com/0PfocMaRbf
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 15, 2024
Offensive Consistency
The Lakers have found their groove offensively at this point in the season. In their last seven games, Los Angeles ranks second in the league in offensive rating at 122.4. The key to their efficiency is unselfish basketball.
The Lakers have been sharing the love offensively during this stretch, posting a league-best 31.3 assists to pair with a league-low ten turnovers per game in that stretch.
This highly efficient assist-to-turnover ratio is the product of Laker offensive players making the right plays and shooting high-efficiency shots. LA has been patient with their three-point shooting as of late, ranking in the bottom third of the league in terms of 3PA per game, yet ranking fourth best in 3P% at 40.0 over their last seven games.
Rather than hunting three-point shots, the Lakers find the open man underneath when it's open, assisting on 65.5% of their two-point field goal attempts, and take the open three-pointer when it’s there.
If the Lakers can continue to play team-oriented basketball, making unselfish plays and taking high-quality shots, they will continue to dominate games on the offensive end.
Anthony Davis (37 PTS) and Rui Hachimura (career-high 36 PTS) are the first Lakers duo to record 35+ points each in a game, since Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal!

Depth
The most encouraging aspect of the Lakers’ seven-game stretch has been the involvement of their entire roster.
In this span, LA has seven players averaging double-digit scoring and six players shooting over 40.0% from three. Additionally, the three players with the highest +- are, you guessed it, Jarred Vanderbilt, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura.
From the start of this season, we’ve waited to see the Lakers’ roster play to the best of their ability.
With so much proven talent, we expected more than their substandard start; however, we’re noticing a shift in the entire roster this month, producing efficiently in their respective roles.
With the addition of Spencer Dinwiddie, the Lakers will hope to continue their hot streak when other key players such as Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and Jarred Vanderbilt come back from injury.
The LakeShow is heating up ahead of the heart of their schedule. With 26 games left to go, the Lakers will look to build on their momentum after the All-Star break.
]]>Detroit has been one of the worst teams in basketball this season, and Los Angeles has a clear advantage. However, anything can happen in the NBA, and no win is guaranteed.
The Pistons are 4-6 in their last ten games, which is their best stretch of the season. LA needs to be prepared for a battle with Detroit, or this game could get away from them quickly.
With that in mind, let’s examine the two keys to a Lakers victory.
The Lakers have found their backup PG. 🔥
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 10, 2024
Here’s what Spencer Dinwiddie will bring to the team: https://t.co/mZYE9EhekD
Spencer Dinwiddie finds his role
Tuesday night’s game marks the debut of the newest Lakers, Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie signed with LA on the buyout market and could have a significant role as the lead guard off the bench.
The 30-year-old is averaging 13/3/6 this season and could be a valuable role player for the LakeShow.
However, it can take time for a player to gain chemistry with the team and fit into a role. The advantage for Dinwiddie is he has played with some of the players on the Lakers roster. Dinwiddie played with D’Angelo Russell and Taurean Prince on the Nets, Rui Hachimura on the Wizards, and Christian Wood on the Mavericks. Having familiarity with multiple players on the roster should help him transition to a new team midseason.
The Lakers are banged up with injuries, and Dinwiddie’s contribution would go a long way toward a victory.
Spencer Dinwiddie says that he spoke with Dlo, Prince, Wood, and Rui which made him even more comfortable and welcomed. Says Rui was happy to see him. (They were teammates) pic.twitter.com/bgSc5SAEmz

Lakers limit Pistons' backcourt
While Detroit has struggled, they have a talented young backcourt. Cade Cunningham leads the way as a budding star, averaging 22/4/8. Cunningham’s playmaking and scoring make him one of the league’s best young players.
Alongside Cunningham in the backcourt is Jaden Ivey. Ivey is a talented two-way guard who has exploded over the past five games, averaging 26/5/4.
If the Lakers are able to limit the Pistons backcourt of Cunningham and Ivey, they have a great shot at coming out with a win.
While the Purple and Gold find themselves in 9th place in the Western Conference, they seem to be figuring things out. Despite dealing with multiple injuries, they have rattled off wins in four of their last five games.
This is a very winnable game, and the Lakers should beat the Pistons ahead of their game tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz.
]]>The 30-year-old point guard will give the Lakers a true ball-handler off the bench, which they have lacked for most of the season. The LakeShow signed Gabe Vincent to play that role, but he has only appeared in five games.
BREAKING: SPENCER DINWIDDIE IS A LOS ANGELES LAKER 🤯 pic.twitter.com/gYM0cXK6MH
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 10, 2024
Dinwiddie has appeared in 48 games this season, averaging 13/3/6 on 39/32/78 shooting splits. While Dinwiddie is a streaky shooter, his playmaking and ability to have big games will give LA a boost off the bench.
When asked about what Dinwiddie would bring to the team last night, LeBron James said, “Playmaking, another ball handler, another shotmaker, another veteran. Anytime you can add a veteran with that ability, it helps. We'll see what happens.”
Anthony Davis was also asked about Dinwiddie and stated, “He's a big guard, shot-maker, playmaker. ... We saw what he did with Dallas, making big plays with them. He's a well established player and vet in this league.”
To Davis’ point, Dinwiddie was instrumental on the Dallas Mavericks run to the Western Conference Finals in 2022. LA will play at that high level as they try to make a late-season push-up from the 9th seed.

Lastly, D’Angelo Russell, who previously played with Dinwiddie in Brooklyn, was asked what he would bring to the Purple and Gold and said, “I’m a fan. Y’all will get to know him soon.”
The players are excited to have the veteran guard on the roster, as he could play a pivotal role in running the show with the bench unit.
They needed another ball-handler, and Dinwiddie will fit in well as backup point guard. At 28-26, the Lakers have an uphill climb ahead, but with Dinwiddie, the roster has the talent and depth to make a surge up the standings.
]]>LA has an open roster spot and will be one of the more enticing landing spots for free agents on the buyout market.
At 27-26, the Lakers are a talented group that has been inconsistent and banged up with injuries. They have the core in place from the team that made it to the Western Conference Finals last season but could use some depth off the bench.
The Purple and Gold is missing Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and Cam Reddish, with injuries for multiple weeks. They also have D’Angelo Russell and Max Christie, who are dealing with day-to-day injuries.
The Lakers should target a backup ball-handler and a two-way forward on the buyout market to bolster their roster.
With the buyout market here, let’s break down the Lakers' options.

Spencer Dinwiddie
Spencer Dinwiddie is by far the best player on the buyout market. The Toronto Raptors waived Dinwiddie after being traded there at the deadline.
The 30-year-old guard is averaging 13/3/6 on 39/32/78 shooting splits. While Dinwiddie hasn’t been efficient this season, he would be a very impactful role player for the LakeShow.
Due to Vincent's injury, the Lakers have operated without a backup point guard for most of the season. This has put more of the ball-handling responsibilities on D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James. Having another ball-handler coming off the bench like Dinwiddie would give the roster more depth and help them make a push up the standings.
The six-foot-five point guard has received interest from the Lakers and Dallas Mavericks already. Dinwiddie met with Dallas on Thursday and will meet with LA this weekend to make his decision. Rob Pelinka stated they are looking for a “ballhandling guard,” and Dinwiddie is the best candidate available.
Marcus Morris
Marcus Morris is another intriguing candidate as the San Antonio Spurs will likely buy him out. Morris could give the Lakers another forward with two-way ability while Vanderbilt is out with his injury.
The 34-year-old forward is averaging 7/3/1 on 44/40/86 shooting splits. While Morris isn’t the player he was in his prime, he is shooting very efficiently and still playing solid on the defensive end of the floor.
Notably, the Purple and Gold signed Morris’ twin brother Markieff on the buyout market back in the 2019-20 season, where they went on to win the title.
The six-eight-forward could have the Lakers' much-needed size, shooting, and defense to help them make a run to end the season.
Spurs are likely to buyout Marcus Morris, sources said. https://t.co/2Qelqpu6mB
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 8, 2024
Kyle Lowry
If the Lakers don’t land Dinwiddie, Kyle Lowry is an option as a backup ball-handler. The veteran point guard was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in January but has not been with the team. A buyout could be reached, making the former All-Star guard available.
In 37 games this season, Lowry is averaging 8/4/4 with 1.1 steals on 43/39/83 shooting splits. The 37-year-old isn’t the star player he once was, but he showed he can be impactful when it matters with big shots and defensive plays in the playoffs for the Miami Heat last season on their run to the NBA Finals.
LA has shown interest in Lowry in the past but never landed him.
Lowry could be the second-best point guard on the buyout market, and his championship experience could help the Lakers bench unit.
Stanley Johnson
The former Laker Stanley Johnson is a free agent and hasn’t played this season. However, Johnson could be an option for the LakeShow as he was a solid role player for them back in the 2021-22 season.
The 27-year-old forward is a great defensive player and could take over the Vanderbilt role during his absence.
Johnson appeared in 30 games for the Spurs last season, averaging 6/3/2 on 53/45/67 shooting splits. While LA shouldn’t expect Johnson to shoot at 45% from three, he could be an elite point-of-attack defender for them off the bench.

— Stadium (@Stadium) February 9, 2024
Our NBA Insider @ShamsCharania has an update on some Pistons moves. pic.twitter.com/jhmVGTqGxq
Danuel House
Shams Charania reported that Danuel House will be one of the most sought-after players on the buyout market. House is a quality 3&D wing who could fit well in a bench role.
In 34 games with the 76ers this season, House is averaging 4/2/1 on 45/30/76 shooting splits. The 30-year-old forward is struggling from three this season but is a career 36% three-point shooter. House’s true impact is on the defensive end as a wing defender.
At six feet six, House is more of a wing than a power forward like Vanderbilt but could still help out the Lakers' defense.
Joe Harris is being waived by the Pistons, per @ShamsCharania pic.twitter.com/8j4wKLp52X
— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) February 8, 2024
Joe Harris
Joe Harris was once one of the best three-point shooters in basketball but has struggled this season.
The 32-year-old was waived by the Detroit Pistons after playing 16 games for them, averaging 2/1/1 on 36/33/50 shooting splits. Although he has struggled, part of that can be due to his inconsistent minutes with Detroit. Harris is a career 43.6% three-point shooter.
Harris would provide shooting alongside James and Anthony Davis but is not good on the defensive end of the floor.
While he could help LA improve their three-point shooting, there are more pressing needs and better players available.
Seth Curry
Seth Curry’s situation is similar to Harris's. The 33-year-old guard is averaging 4/2/1 on 37/36/90 shooting splits. The Charlotte Hornets could waive Curry after being traded at the deadline.
Curry is a career 43.2% three-point shooter and could be an impactful shooter off the bench. Like Harris, his shooting could be valuable, but he is not a good defender, and better fits are available on the buyout market.
JUST IN: The Lakers are among the front runners to sign Spencer Dinwiddie when he clears waivers, via ESPN. pic.twitter.com/qHgMWcIevI
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 8, 2024
The Lakers have plenty of options to pursue and upgrade their roster on the buyout market. Pelinka should focus on landing Dinwiddie with their open roster spot to add another quality ball-handler to their rotation.
]]>Donovan Mitchell is the star the Lakers are confident they can land in the offseason. However, there are many complications. For one, Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference. Mitchell is playing at an elite level, and the Cavs could extend him rather than move him.
It would likely take Mitchell requesting a trade for him to be on the market. Even then, the Lakers wouldn’t be the favorite to land him. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets could both present stronger offers for the five-time All-Star.
The Nets have eight tradable first-round picks.
— Sam Quinn (@SamQuinnCBS) February 8, 2024
The Knicks have nine.
The Jazz and Spurs have 10 each plus swaps from multiple teams.
The Thunder had 12 coming into the day.
Three first-round picks really don't get you as far as they used to. https://t.co/1sDx5OXV7k
New York has nine tradeable first-round picks, while Brooklyn has eight. Teams like the Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs have ten tradeable first-round picks, while the Oklahoma City Thunder have 12. All five teams have the ammo to outbid the Lakers if Mitchell becomes available.
Mitchell would have to request a trade to LA specifically for this to be a possibility. If not, the Lakers are holding on to an unlikely dream of landing Mitchell.
The 27-year-old guard is averaging 29/6/6 with almost two steals per game on 47/36/86 shooting splits. He would be a great fit for the Purple and Gold to win right now and fit long-term alongside Anthony Davis.
However, standing pat at the deadline has risked keeping LeBron James on the team. James has a player option for next season but could decline and enter free agency. Holding on to a pipe dream of landing Mitchell is a questionable decision without adding any depth to the rotation this season.
Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been named by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver as injury replacement on the Eastern Conference team for the 2024 #NBAAllStar Game. pic.twitter.com/0r6FTtbpjg
— NBA (@NBA) February 6, 2024
Another option could be Trae Young, but the Atlanta Hawks have been keen on keeping him. The 25-year-old guard is averaging 27/3/11 with 1.5 steals on 43/38/86 shooting splits. It’s unlikely the Hawks would trade Young, and other teams would have more to offer if they did.
This was a very underwhelming trade deadline for Rob Pelinka and the Lakers front office. Pelinka’s decision not to trade any first-round picks is fine, but he could have maneuvered second-round picks and a player or two to add a quality role player to the bench. It will be interesting to see how Pelinka navigates the offseason and if LeBron will re-sign with the LakeShow.
The Lakers will now focus on the buyout market to round out the roster.
]]>The Lakers are 27-25 this season and could be active at the trade deadline. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been available all season and are playing at a high level.
LA has been inconsistent despite the star duo being healthy for most of the season. Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant could be a great fit as a two-way player. The 29-year-old forward is averaging 21/4/3 on 46/40/81 shooting splits.
Grant can create his own shot and spot up from three on the offensive end of the floor. On defense, Grant can guard the opposing team’s best perimeter player, whether it’s a guard or a forward.
The Lakers are reportedly interested in the following players:
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) January 19, 2024
Bruce Brown
Jerami Grant
Terry Rozier
Gary Trent Jr.
Dorian Finney-Smith
Royce O'Neale
(Via @jovanbuha)
While Grant would be an ideal fit, he is on a costly contract. Grant signed a five-year $160 million deal in the offseason, earning him an average of $32 million annually.
The Lakers would have to include two rotational players and draft capital to make a competitive offer for Grant. Given Grant’s contract, it’s unlikely for the Purple and Gold to acquire him.
Malcolm Brogdon is the other Blazer who the LakeShow has been interested in. He could be an impactful combo guard and fit well around James and Davis.
Brogdon is having a good season for the Portland Trail Blazers, averaging 16/4/6 on 44/41/82 shooting splits. His elite shooting would space the floor well for a Lakers team that has struggled from behind the arc.
The Lakers view trades in which they move Russell for players like Portland’s Malcolm Brogdon, Washington’s Tyus Jones or Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie as lateral moves at best, and most likely downgrades, according to team sources.
— The Laker Files (@LakerFiles) January 26, 2024
Murray is an exception. (@jovanbuha) pic.twitter.com/oN4KQF8Nyc
Brogdon has shown he can be a quality defender during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks. He hasn’t been the same-level defender in recent years, which would be a concern.
A trade for Brogdon seems unlikely. LA views it as a “lateral move,” with Russell, Reaves, or Hachimura being the contract they would have use to acquire Brogdon.
While he is a quality guard, his two-year $45 million contract is too much for the Lakers to match and be a good deal.
Although Grant and Brogdon would be good fits on paper, their contracts make the path to acquire them challenging and not worthwhile.
With the Lakers on a three-game winning streak, it doesn't make sense to pursue Grant or Brogdon. Rob Pelinka and the front office should find alternative moves to add depth to the bench.
]]>The 26-25 Los Angeles Lakers are in Charlotte tonight to face the 10-38 Hornets.
Coming off two solid wins during their recent road trip against the Celtics in Boston and the Knicks in New York, the LakeShow is ready and prepared to beat up on a weak Hornets squad for the second time this season.
Charlotte sits at 13th in the East, is on a seven-game losing streak, and is playing tonight on the second night of a back-to-back (1-6 this season in such games.)
With LeBron James and Anthony Davis back in the rotation, let’s dive into our two keys to victory to take care of business and come out on top of this one.
BREAKING: The Lakers are “bracing” for Jared Vanderbilt to miss the rest of the season
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 5, 2024
(Via @wojespn) pic.twitter.com/ku3Q5vCghC
Notable Injuries
Forward Jarred Vanderbilt was forced out of Thursday’s contest with a foot injury that is expected to cause him to miss extended time.
This is a major hit for a Lakers team that has relied on Vanderbilt’s defensive prowess and offensive production in the transition.
Reddish is also out tonight as he is being re-evaluated for an ankle injury in the next week or so.
With Vanderbilt and Reddish out, expect Taurean Prince and Rui Hachimura to log additional minutes, with the expectation that they’ll play tenacious defense and push the tempo in the transition.
LaMelo Ball (ankle) ruled out Monday.
— Underdog NBA (@Underdog__NBA) February 5, 2024
Hornets’ Offensive Struggles
The Hornets have struggled all year on both ends of the court but are particularly weak offensively. Charlotte ranks 29th in PPG and RPG at 108.3 and 41.0, respectively, as well as 28th in FG% at 41.7%.
This team is one of the worst offensive teams in the league, with no players averaging over 50.0% shooting or 40.0% shooting from three.
The Purple and Gold have been solid defensively over their past two games, notching an eighth-best defensive rating of 109.4 in that span.
They’ve been particularly good in these games at limiting points in the transition, letting up a league-best three points per game off turnovers during this stretch. Additionally, the Lakers rank fourth best in opposing FG% at 41.6 and fifth best in opposing 3P% at 31.3 over their past two wins.
Shootaround vibes 💯 pic.twitter.com/7NkTfl0gcd
— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) February 5, 2024
Ultimately, if the Lakers can continue to play defense with the tenacity they have been, they should have no trouble containing the Hornets offensively and taking care of business on the other end.
If we’ve learned anything from watching NBA basketball, no win is guaranteed; however, in a matchup like tonight, so long as the Lakers pay close attention to their gameplan, they should have no trouble rolling over an unimpressive Hornets roster.
Expect the Lakers to win in a landslide in their third straight road victory.
]]>The Lakers are looking to add a backup point guard with Dennis Schroder and Collin Sexton as targets. Schroder has had two stints with the Lakers, including being an impact player for them last season.
The 30-year-old guard left LA in free agency, signing a two-year $25 million deal with the Toronto Raptors.
REPORT: The Lakers have interest in bringing back Dennis Schroder, via @espn
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) January 23, 2024
“With the Raptors already completing a trade with the New York Knicks to acquire two ball-dominant players in RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, Schroder could become expendable.” pic.twitter.com/saSpLvyrCo
Toronto has already been active in the trade market, sending away Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby as they retool their roster around budding star forward Scottie Barnes.
Schroder is a high-quality backup point guard, as he plays well on both ends of the floor. He is averaging 14/3/6 on 45/35/85 shooting splits. Schroder has established chemistry with many players on the roster and would fit well as the backup point guard.
Gabe Vincent was supposed to take on Schroder’s role, but he’s only appeared in six games due to injuries.
If LA can acquire him, he would be a quality backup point guard off the bench behind D’Angelo Russell.
The Purple and Gold are also interested in Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton. Sexton is playing well, averaging 18/3/5 on 49/38/88 shooting splits. The 25-year-old guard has been a very efficient offensive player. While he isn’t a great defensive player, he could be a spark plug for the LakeShow off the bench.
Sexton is in the second year of a four-year $70 million contract. With Sexton under contract for multiple years, the Lakers could have him continue growing as a part of their young core.
The Utah Jazz are being considered both a buyer and seller at this juncture, with ball-handlers Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Talen Horton-Tucker considered available for trade per @YahooSports
— NbaTradeCenter (@nbatradecenter1) January 26, 2024
The Jazz are reportedly making Sexton available at the deadline. LA could offer Gabe Vincent plus a young player like Jalen Hood-Schifino and draft capital for Sexton.
Rob Pelinka and the front office made a trade with the Jazz at the last trade deadline, with the three-team deal that sent D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt to the Lakers.
They could make another trade at this year’s deadline for Sexton to become the lead guard off the bench.
The LakeShow has different directions they could take at the trade deadline. Pelinka has a lot of work to do in evaluating this roster, but Schroder and Sexton are options for their backup point guard spot.
]]>The Lakers have strung together back-to-back wins over two elite teams, the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks.
LA got the 113-105 win over New York with an all-around team performance. LeBron James and Anthony Davis returned to the lineup and were pivotal in the win. James finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 10-19 shooting.
LeBron and the Lakers SHUT DOWN the Garden 😈 pic.twitter.com/sqz6iU6rJq
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 4, 2024
Davis struggled offensively with 12 points on 4-12 shooting but dominated on the glass with 18 rebounds and on the defensive end with four blocks and a steal. Davis’ elite defense in the paint allowed the team to double Jalen Brunson in the second half, disrupting the Knicks’ offense.
The stifling defense held New York to 19 points in the fourth quarter. With that said, let’s break down two takeaways from the Lakers win.
Darvin Ham is finally maximizing the rotation
It took 51 games, but head coach Darvin Ham is maximizing the rotation. Ham changed the starting lineup before the game, with Rui Hachimura replacing Taurean Prince.
Prince had started in 47 games this season when the original plan was for him to be a quality bench contributor. Coming off the bench against the Knicks, Prince had 16 points on 3-6 from three. The Lakers move to 3-1 this season when Prince doesn’t start.
The 29-year-old forward is a solid role player, and now that he isn’t thrust into the starting lineup, he can play more freely.
Ham is also getting high-quality minutes from Max Christie and Jaxson Hayes. Christie finished the game with six points on 2-2 from three to go along with two blocks. He finished a team-high +12.
Hayes had a second-straight good game, with ten points, three assists, and a steal on 3-3 shooting.
With Ham finally defining roles for his players, the Lakers can find a rhythm and go on an extended win streak.
THIS PASS FROM AUSTIN REAVES 😮💨 pic.twitter.com/ZRxTeErjCB
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 4, 2024
Austin Reaves is on fire
Austin Reaves has settled into a rhythm of late, with three straight games with 20 or more points. Against the Knicks, Reaves had 22 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and two blocks. 12 of Reaves’ points came in the fourth quarter, helping the Purple and Gold get the victory.
With Reaves in rhythm and the rest of the team flourishing in their roles, the Lakers have a chance to move up the standings.
The LakeShow will look to continue their win streak on Monday on the road against the Charlotte Hornets.
]]>The Lakers received unfortunate news, as the right foot injury Jarred Vanderbilt suffered in the win over the Boston Celtics is expected to sideline him for several weeks and could be season-ending.
Vanderbilt had battled with injuries earlier in the season and had finally gotten into a rhythm of late. The 24-year-old was playing some of the best basketball of his career, averaging 10/6/2 with 2.2 steals in the last ten games. In those games, he has shot the ball with 66/63/73 splits.
JUST IN: Jarred Vanderbilt is expected to miss several weeks with a right foot injury.
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 2, 2024
Further evaluation is expected to see if the injury will keep him out even longer, per @wojespn.
Brutal news. Wishing Vando a speedy recovery. 😓🙏 pic.twitter.com/rOVGHQNrGY
Vanderbilt has always been a great defensive player and rebounder, which has helped him be impactful. However, he was adding to his value of late, unlocking his offensive potential.
The injury is a big blow to the Lakers as they lose their best perimeter defender. LA wants to compete for a championship with their star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
With that in mind, here are forwards the Lakers must target to fill Vanderbilt’s role while he’s out with an injury.
Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith is a quality 3&D forward who LA has expressed interest in. Finney-Smith is averaging 9/5/1 on 41/38/70 shooting splits.
The Nets are shopping Finney-Smith, who has two years remaining on his four-year $55 million deal, with a player option for the 2025-26 season. The six-foot-seven forward would be highly impactful for the Lakers as a point-of-attack defender while spacing the floor on offense.
While Finney-Smith would be a great role player to add, Brooklyn’s price is significant. The New York Post reported the Nets rejected an offer of two first-round picks for Finney-Smith. If that’s the case, the Purple and Gold likely don’t have the assets to make a run at the 30-year-old forward.
The Brooklyn Nets rejected an offer of two first-rounders for Dorian Finney-Smith, per @NYPost_Lewis
— NBACentral (@TheDunkCentral) February 2, 2024
(Via https://t.co/DdIdhntKVj) pic.twitter.com/iroLc6FtGR
Royce O’Neale
Royce O’Neale is another Nets forward in whom the LakeShow has shown interest. The price for O’Neale wouldn’t be as much as Finney-Smith, making him a more realistic trade target.
The six-foot-six forward is averaging 7/5/3 on 38/36/65 shooting splits. O’Neale is in the final year of his deal, making $9.5 million.
O’Neale is a good defender and has been a reliable 38% three-point shooter throughout his career. He would give the Lakers rotation a quality role player who could help fill Vanderbilt’s role.
Kenrich Williams
Kenrich Williams is an under-the-radar target LA could have ahead of the trade deadline. Williams makes an impact with hustle plays and doing the little things for his team.
The 29-year-old is averaging 5/3/1 on 47/39/30 shooting splits. Williams is an underrated defensive player and shoots efficiently from three in his limited offensive production.
The six-foot-six forward is in the first year of a four-year $27 million deal. Williams has been impactful for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and given their 33-15 record, it’s unlikely they will move him ahead of the deadline.
Torrey Craig practiced fully, per Donovan. Could play tomorrow. Will depend on how he feels at shootaround tomorrow. Craig hasn’t played since Dec. 16 with right plantar fascia injury.
— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) February 2, 2024
Torrey Craig
Torrey Craig is a forward who could be on the move ahead of the trade deadline. Craig is a veteran who has had a respectable career as a role player.
The 33-year-old has been out with an injury but is expected to come back soon. He is averaging 6/5/1 on 42/38/78 shooting splits. Craig is a good defender and three-point shooter who could be impactful in the rotation.
The six-foot-seven forward is on a two-year $5 million deal with a player option for next season. Craig has playoff experience and is a cheap option as a forward who could play around 20 minutes per night.
The Lakers front office has many decisions ahead of the trade deadline. Rob Pelinka should prioritize bringing in another forward, as Vanderbilt will miss a significant amount of time.
]]>The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics 114-105 Thursday night in Boston’s third home loss of the year in 25 games.
Coming into the game, the Lakers’ prospects of a victory were seemingly narrow, given the absence of superstar duo LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The LakeShow embraced the “next-man-up” mentality, as bench guys and rotational players stepped up big time in this one, with six guys scoring in double digits.
Let’s take a look at our two key takeaways from this game that will likely serve as a turning point for the Purple and Gold this season.
Austin Reaves outscored Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown COMBINED last night.
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) February 2, 2024
And y’all really said trade this man 😂 pic.twitter.com/OjXNt3UfXS
Austin Reaves Legacy Game
Austin Reaves was firing on all cylinders last night, scoring 32 points on 10-18 from the field.
He most notably was unconscious from the three-point line, shooting 7-10 in that category, and recorded zero turnovers in nearly 35 minutes.
The most impressive part of Reaves’ night was his defense, as he let up a second-best 94.4 defensive rating, just behind defensive lockdown Jarred Vanderbilt.
Holding all-star Jaylen Brown to a mere eight points in this one, Reaves proved that he is once again capable of being a true superstar on the biggest stages.
Reaves has seen his struggles this season, averaging 15.5 points on 48.8% from the field and 35.9% from beyond the arc. He also averages just over two turnovers per game in 30.7 minutes.

— LakeShow Highlights (@LSH_lakeshow) February 2, 2024
D'Lo should have shot that I know he would have made it pic.twitter.com/d3nRmfGjrI
His shooting efficiency has been slightly worse on the road as well, at only 46.7% from the field and 34.6% from three, all the more reason to be excited about this performance.
Without LeBron and Anthony Davis, AR-15 was the primary scorer, putting up 18 shots compared to his 11.6 season average.
If Reaves can find a way to keep his rhythm in games where he is less relied upon to score every possession and continue to play strong perimeter defense, the Lakers can continue to build consistency on both ends.
Celtics 3-Point Struggles
The Lakers limited what the Celtics do best, shooting the three-pointer. Boston shot an ugly 33.3% on the night, substantially lower than their home average of 38%. Additionally, the Lakers matched the Celtics’ intensity on the boards, losing the rebounding battle by two to the league’s best team in that category.
Jaxson Hayes is culpable for the Celtic’s ugly night here, as he filled in for Anthony Davis well, chipping in 16 points along with 11 boards.
He additionally held opposing center Kristaps Porzingis to 1-7 from the three-point line, an impressive effort for the young big man.

We’ll see how LA utilizes him in the future once Davis is back, but the Lakers’ defense holding Boston to 105 points at home speaks for itself.
The Lakers will look to build on their newfound momentum tomorrow night as they face a well-oiled New York Knicks team in Madison Square Garden.
]]>The 24-25 Los Angeles Lakers are in Boston tonight to face the number one ranked 37-11 Celtics.
The Celtics enter tonight’s matchup 8-2 in their last 10, off of two straight wins against the Pelicans and Pacers. The LakeShow, on the other hand, enter tonight 5-5 in their last 10, coming off two consecutive losses by 15+ to the Rockets and Hawks.
Boston took the first of the two matchups this season for these historic rivals, winning convincingly on Christmas Day in Los Angeles.

Without LeBron James and Anthony Davis, this win won’t come easy. A win tonight would ensure the Lakers can battle against championship contenders, even without their superstars on the court.
Let’s look at our two keys to victory to build momentum ahead of the month of February.
Celtics’ Home Dominance and Lakers’ Road Struggles
The Celtics boast a home record of 22-2 this season, their only losses coming against the Nuggets and Clippers. The Lakers, however, are a mere 7-17 on the road and have looked like a completely different team when playing outside of LA.
Boston’s strong play at home this season is unusual, particularly because they haven’t been statistically better compared to the degree their record supposes.
The only true area in which the Celtics are better at home is their three-point shooting. Boston shoots a league-high 42.6 3PA per game at a fourth-best 38% clip. At home, however, this number jumps to 40% compared to 36% on the road.

— Jovan Buha (@jovanbuha) February 1, 2024
Similar to the Celtics, the Lakers don’t seemingly have the statistical discrepancies that I would expect from their road record; however, the area in which they struggle on the road compared to at home is rebounding.
While LA is in the middle of the pack when it comes to rebounding at home this season at 44.1 per game, they fall into the bottom third of the league in this category on the road at 41.5.
When it comes to momentum, the Lakers are not at an advantage in Boston. In order to keep themselves in this game, LA will have to force the Celtics into a poor shooting night, aided by strong defense and tenacity on the defensive glass to limit second-chance three-point opportunities.
Boston on the Boards
The Celtics are the best rebounding team in the association at 47.2 per game.
The Lakers have struggled against strong rebounding teams this year, and without Anthony Davis, LA might find themselves struggling to crash the boards tonight.
Darvin Ham reveals the Lakers’ starting lineup vs. Boston:
— Jovan Buha (@jovanbuha) February 1, 2024
D’Angelo Russell
Austin Reaves
Taurean Prince
Jarred Vanderbilt
Jaxson Hayes
The Lakers, however, may be saved by their FG%. If LA can focus on taking high-quality looks and emulate their 39.2 3P% and 51.3 FG% that they post in wins, they could find themselves in this game.
It’s been a tough week for Lakers fans, and it honestly doesn’t seem too bright tonight.
If the LakeShow can muster a win here, it may be their biggest win of the season; however, with so many factors against them, it won’t come easy.
Head Coach Darvin Ham must emphasize taking high-quality shots, being aggressive on the defensive glass, and playing with heart tonight, where the Purple and Gold have practically nothing to lose.
]]>According to Shams Charania, Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie is among the Lakers trade targets. The Nets are 11th in the East with a 19-27 record, meaning they could be sellers at the deadline.
The Lakers (24-25) have shown interest in many point guards in the trade market, signaling that they are not happy with their production from the position.
Starting point guard D’Angelo Russell is red hot at the moment, as he is averaging 23/2/6 off of 49% shooting in January. However, he has had his fair share of ups and downs throughout the season and has been the topic of trade rumors for quite some time.
Furthermore, backup point guard Gabe Vincent has been a disappointment in his first season with the Lakers. Vincent has appeared in just five games due to a knee injury and averaged a mere 5/1/3 when he was on the court.
Dejounte Murray continues to be a top target for the Lakers.

The Lakers are also interested in the Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie and Royce O'Neale, per @ShamsCharania.
(via @RunItBackFDTV) pic.twitter.com/E2lMh38lep
With this in mind, it makes sense that the Lakers are checking in on point guards around the league. The position group has been inconsistent at best, and they could use a spark to improve their record leading up to the playoffs.
Spencer Dinwiddie is an interesting veteran option for the Lakers as he is in his 10th season and will be 31 years old in April. He is having an average season for the Nets, putting up 13/3/6 while shooting 39% from the field.
Like Russell, Dinwiddie has also struggled with consistency this season. He is a streaky scorer that tends to be either hot or cold.
Furthermore, he has not been a difference-maker on defense, averaging less than a steal per game and a mere 1.1 deflections per game.
Moreover, the Lakers would take on Dinwiddie’s $20.3 million salary if they decide to trade for him. In order to financially facilitate a trade, the Lakers would have to include D’Angelo Russell ($17.3 million) or Gabe Vincent ($10.5 million) and 2+ role players.
Strong take by Spencer Dinwiddie 🔥#NETSonYES pic.twitter.com/d1OiW9GXy0
— YES Network (@YESNetwork) January 26, 2024
Given this context about Dinwiddie, the Purple and Gold would be wise to pass on the veteran guard and pursue another player at the deadline. He is not an immediate upgrade over Russell and does not bring top-tier playmaking or defensive ability to the team.
One scenario that could make sense for Dinwiddie and the Lakers is if he is rerouted to LA as a part of a three-team trade involving D’Angelo Russell.
Adrian Wojnarowski reported that finding a third team for Russell has been a halting point in a potential trade with the Atlanta Hawks for guard Dejounte Murray.
While the Lakers wouldn’t need Dinwiddie if they acquired Murray, Woj’s report could also be a sticking point with other trade targets for the LakeShow.
If the Lakers need another veteran point guard to help facilitate a trade, then Dinwiddie could be an option.
]]>As we look ahead at the February 8th trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers could desperately use a spark to improve their record.
They are currently tied for ninth in the West with a record of 24-23 and have bounced in and out of the play-in mix throughout the year.
While the Lakers have shown flashes of brilliance this season, they have struggled to put a consistent product on the court. Questionable lineups and rotation decisions from head coach Darvin Ham have been a big factor, but it ultimately boils down to weaknesses on the roster.
One area that the Lakers should look to upgrade is their big man rotation. While Anthony Davis is one of the best centers in the NBA, the options behind him have been less than ideal for the Lakers.
Anthony Davis with an update on his hip and the back-and-forth battle down the stretch. pic.twitter.com/v77gPyaMAh
— Spectrum SportsNet (@SpectrumSN) January 28, 2024
Christian Wood is more of an offensive-minded power forward than a true center, and Jaxson Hayes has struggled to make much of an impact when he is on the court.
The Lakers could greatly benefit from adding a true difference-maker at center, as they are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league. They are in the bottom 10 in the NBA in rebounds per game (42.2) and tied for last in offensive rebounds (8.3).
Furthermore, adding another true center would take some pressure off Anthony Davis. This would give him the flexibility to play power forward in some lineups and not be the primary interior defender.
A perfect trade candidate for the Lakers is Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford.
The 25-year-old starting center has become a hot trade target around the league, as the Knicks, Mavericks, and Rockets have recently expressed trade interest in Gafford.
Gafford is having a solid season for the Wizards, averaging 11/8/2 shooting 70% from the field. He is posting a career-high in points and rebounds per game. Gafford is also a top-tier rim defender, as he is eighth in the league in blocks per game with 2.1 and averages 9.1 contested shots per game.
While Gafford’s 7.7 rpg isn’t eye-opening, a large part of that has to do with the system he’s in. The Wizards play an extremely aggressive form of basketball, often leaving him in a poor position on offense and defense.

— Washed LakersvsHaters 🅿️ (@notlakersgm) January 21, 2024
H/T @DanWoikeSports pic.twitter.com/5Av1YKorvM
The Lakers would be a much better fit for Gafford, where their strong defensive wings will lead to him being less overtasked in his role.
The main question with Gafford is if the Wizards would be willing to trade him. Given their 8-37 record, the Wizards will undoubtedly be sellers at the deadline.
However, Gafford is one of their best players and is only 25 years old, making him a potential part of their young core. He is also reasonably priced as he is in the first year of his three-year $42 million Bird Rights extension.
Given this, as well as Gafford being a sought-after player in the trade market, any Lakers trade package would have to include a player and draft capital going to the Wizards.
Rui Hachimura would make sense to include, as his salary matches up with Gafford’s, and the Lakers already have good depth at the forward position. Gabe Vincent would line up contractually, but his deal is viewed as a negative asset around the league.
This year's NBA draft also has a great center prospect in Australia’s Alexandre Sarr, and the Wizards are projected to finish with a top-three pick. This could make Gafford much more expendable at the deadline.
]]>The Lakers have expressed interest in Andre Drummond and Alex Caruso, two former Lakers.
Drummond and Caruso are quality role players who could be impactful contributors for this current roster.
Caruso and Drummond both played for LA in the 2020-21 season. They are both on the Chicago Bulls now, who the Purple and Gold beat 141-132 on Thursday night.
Caruso is one of the best role players in the NBA, and the Lakers have regretted letting him walk in free agency. The 29-year-old is one of the best perimeter defenders in basketball and has great chemistry with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
LeBron hinting at an Alex Caruso reunion? 👀🍿 pic.twitter.com/sgOzVKw4zo
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) January 26, 2024
Caruso earned All-Defensive First Team Honors last season and has continued to play at a high level this season. He is averaging 10/4/3 with 1.3 steals and one block per game on 49/42/78 shooting splits.
Caruso was a part of the Lakers 2020 championship team and would be an excellent addition at the trade deadline. He could start or come off the bench for this team and is under contract for this season and next.
Chicago hasn’t expressed interest in moving Caruso despite multiple teams, including the LakeShow, being interested. It would likely take multiple first-round picks, a young player like Jalen Hood-Schifino or Max Christie, and a salary filler to make a competitive offer.
His defense skill and efficient three-point shooting makes him a perfect fit for the team.
Drummond is another target for the Lakers. The 30-year-old center is in the final year of his deal, averaging 8/8/1 while shooting 55.3% from the field.
He is a quality traditional backup center, which is something they desperately could use. Anthony Davis is one of the best bigs in basketball, and Christian Wood has been a solid backup big.
However, Wood is offensive-minded, and LA could use a traditional backup center like Drummond, who could help defend elite centers like Nikola Jokic in the playoffs.

The cost of Drummond, who is on an expiring deal, likely wouldn’t be much. Trading away Jaxson Hayes plus second-round picks may be enough to get a deal done.
While Drummond’s first tenure with the Lakers didn’t work out, he started to establish chemistry with Davis in the postseason. He would fill a role for the team and establish quality depth in their big rotation.
Rob Pelinka has a lot of work to do at the trade deadline. There are many avenues he could go, but Caruso and Drummond would be impactful additions.
]]>The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Chicago Bulls 141-132 Thursday night in what proved to be an offensive clinic for the Purple and Gold.
Four of five Laker starters recorded 20+ points in this one, with three more chipping in double-digit scoring performances as well.
Sitting at .500, let’s take a look at our three key takeaways from this victory ahead of the Lakers’ upcoming road trip.
Vando stepped up tonight!

Vando Vortex
Jarred Vanderbilt scored a Lakers career-high 17 points last night off the bench, on 8/11 shooting to go along with five rebounds. Vanderbilt notched 13 in the first half, an unusually high number fueled by pushing the ball in the transition for fastbreak points.
He also went 1/1 from beyond the arc, something that the LakeShow would love to become consistent for him.
At 4.4, Vanderbilt averages fewer points on the year than practically every rotational player. While we shouldn’t expect nights like these every game, if Vanderbilt can make an offensive contribution in any capacity, he will continue to serve as a viable two-way threat off the bench for the Lakers down the stretch.
Look for the Lakers to get Vanderbilt more high-quality shots and get involved on the offensive end.
DO NOT TRADE D’ANGELO RUSSELL 🗣️🗣️🗣️ pic.twitter.com/XI9yjKAXjm
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) January 26, 2024
3-Point Showcase
At 36.6% on the year, the Lakers are middle of the pack when it comes to shooting the three-ball. Thursday night, however, LA was on a different planet from three.
At 64.5% (20/31), they shot ridiculously high from the three-point line. Six of seven Lakers that attempted a three-shot over 50% in that category.
D’Angelo Russell continued his hot shooting streak, going 8/13 from three, en route to his sixth 20+ point performance in a row at 29 points. He’s now shooting 42.2% on the year in that category, with no signs of slowing down.
If Russell can continue to shoot the ball the way he has, it will open up the court for other guys to find open three-point opportunities for themselves.
Lakers becoming a good offense bad defense was not what I expected. Improvement at least tho https://t.co/cFoUFPAJNe

Rebounding and Defense
While the Lakers did handle the Bulls in this victory, they still played mediocre defensively and were lackluster in the rebounding category. The Lakers were outrebounded 39-30, something that rarely results in Laker victories, and gave up 132 points on 53.4% shooting.
LA cannot rely on unsustainably high offensive production to pull out victories, especially against poor shooting teams. Look for the Lakers to buckle down defensively in order to win ahead of their upcoming road stretch.
Ultimately, the Lakers were impressive on the offensive end, with practically the whole rotation getting in on the action; however, the poor rebounding and defense we witnessed Thursday night could cost them close games if they are unprepared.
The Lakers will get ready to face the down-trending Warriors on Saturday night as part of their rivalry week matchup. With new momentum, expect Los Angeles to come out tomorrow with tenacity.
]]>The 22-23 Los Angeles Lakers are set to face the 21-24 Chicago Bulls at home tonight in their second and final matchup this season.
LA fell to the Bulls 124-108 just last month in a game that featured eight double-digit scoring performances for Chicago.
In January, the Purple and Gold are a mere 5-6, an uninspiring record, to say the least; however, there have been many flashes of solid basketball during this stretch.
Ahead of their matchup tonight, let’s dive into our two keys to victory to build momentum and propel the Lakers in the right direction for the rest of this season.

Home Court Advantage
The Lakers have been a completely different team at home versus on the road this season. They have posted a 16-8 record at home compared to 5-16 when away.
This discrepancy is primarily due to the difference in defensive tenacity when playing in L.A.
The LakeShow has been in the middle of the pack defensively this year, sitting at 14th in the league in defensive rating at 114.1 and 17th in opposing points per game at 115.8.
These numbers, however, look wildly different at home versus away, as the Lakers sit fifth in the league in defensive rating at home at 109.3, surrendering a mere 111.1 points per game (10th best.) On the road, however, the Lakers have the fifth-worst defensive rating at 119.7 and surrender 121.3 points (eighth worst.)
Accounting for much of the defensive struggles on the road has been the Lakers’ inability to crash the defensive boards and prevent second-chance opportunities, as they surrender the second most second-chance points in the league at 16.6, compared to a ninth-best 13.3 at home.
The Bulls are a solid offensive rebounding team, sitting in the top third of the league in that category; however, they are the fourth worst road shooting team in the league, averaging only 45.3% from the field.
The Lakers have managed to keep their foot on the gas pedal defensively when playing at home this season. They should be able to capitalize on the defensive glass from Chicago’s misses to limit opposing second-chance opportunities.

D’Lo Dominance
If you’ve been watching any Lakers basketball recently, you’d know that point guard D’Angelo Russell has been on a tear offensively these past couple of weeks. In the last five games, Russell is averaging 24.8 points on 52.3% shooting from the field, and 50.0% from three.
While this offensive onslaught is encouraging, DLO’s defense has also been tremendous, posting a team-low 99.0 defensive rating in the same span.
The Lakers need to find a way to capitalize on Russell’s dominance. You can’t ask much more from your point guard, and Head Coach Darvin Ham must emphasize a team commitment to elevating their performance during this critical stretch.
Ultimately, this Lakers’ win will start on the defensive end, limiting second-chance opportunities and pushing the ball in the transition for easy points.
If LA can find momentum early tonight, they will have the opportunity to carry that energy throughout the game and come out with a win to tie this season series and move to .500.
]]>According to Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are internally discussing a trade for Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Donovan Mitchell or Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young.
The Lakers are 22-23 and 9th in the Western Conference and have been very inconsistent since the In-Season Tournament.
LA has been linked to many players ahead of the deadline. Mitchell and Young would be the route where the Lakers pursue a “bonafide star” rather than a smaller rotational upgrade.

The report claimed the Purple and Gold would part with three draft picks and multiple players to acquire one of the All-Stars.
Mitchell is under contract for this season and next season with a player option for the 2025-26 season. The 27-year-old guard is averaging 28/5/6 with two steals per game. Mitchell is shooting 46.2% from the field and 34.9% from three.
He would be a good fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Mitchell would also be a long-term fit next to Davis once James retires or leaves the Lakers.
However, Cleveland has expressed no desire to trade Mitchell at the deadline amidst their eight-game winning streak.
Young was the other star the Lakers have internally discussed pursuing. The 25-year-old is under contract for at least the next three seasons, with an early-termination option for the fourth year. Young is averaging 27/3/11 on 42/36/86 shooting splits.

The Hawks have Young as one of their untouchable players, making a deal highly unlikely. LA is much more likely to acquire his teammate, Dejounte Murray, at the deadline.
If the Lakers want to make a run at acquiring Mitchell or Young, it will likely happen in the offseason. LA will be able to send three first-round picks in the offseason, which would be a more competitive offer than they can make now.
Rob Pelinka and the front office will be active at the trade deadline, but a deal for Mitchell or Young is doubtful.
]]>Trade rumors continue to swirl as the Lakers stand at 24-24 and 9th in the Western Conference. A name linked to the Lakers is Hawks star guard Dejounte Murray.
As it stands, a Lakers trade for Murray seems unlikely. Russell has been on a tear and the front office is reluctant to trade him. Hawks head coach Quin Snyder is "lobbying for the Hawks to keep Murray."

However, there was a previously discussed framework between LA and Atlanta.
The framework would send Murray to the LakeShow for Russell, Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 first-round pick, and a pick swap. However, the holdup for a deal is finding a third team to take on Russell and the Lakers' reluctance to do the deal given Russell's recent play. The Hawks don’t view Russell as a fit next to their star guard Trae Young.
Proposed framework:
Lakers receive: Dejounte Murray
Hawks receive: Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2029 first-round pick, a first-round pick swap, and assets from third team
Third team receives: D'Angelo Russell
A team that could come in as a third team is the Brooklyn Nets. It would be Russell’s second stint with the Nets, and he would be an upgrade for them at point guard. His shooting and playmaking would fit well alongside their star, Mikal Bridges.

Russell recently praised the Nets coach after LA lost to Brooklyn, stating, “Obviously, Jacque Vaughn’s a hell of a coach. He’s drawing up sets and putting them in position to take advantage of any miscommunication or mishap on our end.”
To make this deal work, Brooklyn could send Spencer Dinwiddie's expiring contract to Atlanta, which would allow the Hawks to have cap flexibility in the offseason.
Through Russell’s play in December, it seemed almost certain he would be moved at the trade deadline. Russell averaged 10/2/6, shooting 40.9% from the floor and 31% from three. While it was a poor shooting month, he has turned it around completely in January.
Russell is averaging 24/2/6 on 50/47/83 shooting splits this month. This stretch of play makes it much more difficult to part with Russell, who is the best three-point shooter on the team and a good ball-handler.
The knock on Russell is opposing teams targeting him on the defensive end of the floor. He has also been a streaky offensive player, showcased by his drastic shift from December to January.
The question for Rob Pelinka and the front office is: Can Russell continue to play at this level consistently? That will be vital to determining whether a trade for Murray is worthwhile.
ANOTHER NIGHT, ANOTHER GAME WINNER FOR DEJOUNTE MURRAY 🤯🔥 pic.twitter.com/a0ZBmUkCEo
— Lakers All Day Everyday (@LADEig) January 20, 2024
Looking at Murray, he is a better defender than Russell but has fallen off on that end of the floor this season compared to years prior. If he came to the Lakers, would he return the All-Defensive player he once was?
Regardless, Murray would be an upgrade on defense over Russell. Overall, Murray is averaging 21/5/5 on 47/39/83 shooting splits. The 27-year-old has been on fire of late, with two game-winners in the last couple of weeks.
With the players' production in mind, let’s break down the positives and negatives of a Murray trade.
Dejounte Murray is on a decent contract through moving forward. I imagine that’s part of the reason the Lakers like him. pic.twitter.com/a7tNTptci9
— Laker Central (@LakerCentral365) January 22, 2024
Positives of trading for Murray:
Murray is a better all-around player than Russell. Their scoring production is pretty even, but a lot of it falls on opportunity, as Murray is the number two option in Atlanta compared to Russell being the third or lower option in LA.
With comparable scoring and playmaking, Murray would be an upgrade on the defensive end of the floor and as a rebounder.
Another positive in trading for Murray is his contract length. Murray is under contract for the next four seasons, with a player option for the fifth season. It is a reasonable deal, ranging from 25-30 million annually after this season.
On the other hand, Russell has a player option at the end of this season, meaning he could opt out and become a free agent. That is a concern that the Lakers should note.
That being said, let’s examine the negatives of trading for Murray.
In a one-for-one trade deal, The Lakers doubt that they can find any players that will complement LeBron and Anthony Davis the way D'Angelo Russell's game does, per @mcten. pic.twitter.com/pzonFwf23S
— Legion Hoops (@LegionHoops) January 23, 2024
Negatives of trading for Murray:
The negative of trading for Murray is it would be a midseason deal. Without a whole training camp to get familiar with the team, it would be a quick transition for Murray. However, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work.
The difference would be Russell already has established chemistry with the roster, while Murray would have to find his role and chemistry with the team.
Another question is Murray’s three-point shooting. He is having a breakout season from distance, shooting at a 39% clip. However, for his career, Murray is a 35% shooter from three, which is below the league average.
The Lakers would be losing a proven shooter in Russell, who’s shooting 42% from deep this season and 37% for his career.
Russell may be a better fit for the roster given his elite shooting ability.
D'Angelo Russell: "Just having fun. That's what we all dreamed of doing. Growing up, you practice moves and try things in your backyard...Never thought I would be able to throw a bounce pass lob to LeBron James."

The big concern in this deal is the draft capital and young talent. The first-round pick in 2029 could be very valuable, and a pick swap could end up with LA having to give up a higher pick.
They may also have to throw in rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. Although Hood-Schifino has struggled this season, he was the 17th overall pick and could be developed into a solid point guard.
Pelinka and the front office need to examine the positives and negatives of doing a deal for Murray. With the way Russell is playing, it's unlikely they move him. He has great chemistry with the roster, and there are other avenues for the Lakers to improve at the trade deadline.
It will be interesting to see the direction the LakeShow takes at the trade deadline.
