Lakers-Nuggets Game 5 preview: 2 keys to victory

Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times

The Lakers are on the brink of elimination once again, facing the Denver Nuggets in a crucial Game 5 that could decide the series.

LA played well in Game 4, defending their home court and extending the series. Four Lakers (Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, and D’Angelo Russell) finished with over 20 points.

The balanced offensive contribution helped them to keep the series alive.

On the defensive end of the floor, the Lakers showcased their prowess, limiting Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon. Murray had 22 points and five assists but shot an inefficient 9-23 and had four turnovers. Gordon went from a 29-point performance in Game 3 to only seven points in Game 4.

To get another win in Game 5, here are two keys to victory.

Lakers win rebound battle again

If the Purple and Gold want to secure victory in Game 5, they must emerge triumphant in the rebound battle. In the series' first three games, the LakeShow lost the rebound battle, making it a crucial aspect to focus on.

When they won the rebound battle in Game 4, the Lakers got a victory. It will be crucial to getting a win if they can win the rebound battle once again.

Contain Denver’s role players

Another key to LA’s Game 4 win was containing Gordon. If all of Denver’s starters or any of their bench players have a good game, it’s tough for the Purple and Gold to come out on top.

Getting Jarred Vanderbilt back could be crucial to this, as he is questionable for this contest.

Containing Porter Jr, Gordon, and Caldwell Pope could be pivotal to stealing Game 5 on the road.

If the Lakers steal Game 5, they will be right back in the series. Winning the rebound battle and containing Denver’s role players will be pivotal to a victory.
