Lakers sign Tristan Thompson and Shaquille Harrison

The Lakers finally used their open roster spot, signing Tristan Thompson. They also waived Davon Reed and signed Shaquille Harrison.

Thompson is the notable signing as he gives LA extra depth at center. He is a solid big at this stage of his career. Thompson won a championship with LeBron James in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Last season, he averaged 6/5/1 while shooting 52.8% from the field. Thompson provides additional depth at big with Anthony Davis, Mo Bamba, and Wenyen Gabriel. Thompson likely won’t see a ton of minutes, but if an injury happens, he could step in. His experience with James should allow him to have a smooth transition to the team.

Shaquille Harrison adds additional guard depth for LA. He likely won’t play much unless an injury occurs. In five games this season, Harrison is averaging 9/4/6, shooting 41.7% from the floor and 30% from three.

He is a defensive guard that gives the LakeShow improved depth.

Thompson is reunited with James as they prepare for their playoff run. This is reminiscent of the 2020 championship season, where the Lakers signed J.R. Smith, another one of James’ former Cavs teammates, for additional depth before the playoff run.

Thompson now does the same thing, and his veteran experience should help this team as they head into either the play-in tournament or the playoffs.

Rob Pelinka deserves props, as he finally used the final roster spot and brought in more depth. Lakers fans should be excited as playoff basketball is almost upon us.
