The perfect Lakers trade offer for Alex Caruso

The Chicago Bulls could be entering a rebuild as they are shopping All-Star guard Zach LaVine. LA is reportedly interested in LaVine, Alex Caruso, and DeMar DeRozan. Caruso is the most realistic and cheapest option. That said, here’s the perfect trade offer the Lakers should make.

Lakers receive: Alex Caruso

Bulls receive: Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and a 2029 first-round pick swap (Bulls get more favorable pick)

DISCLAIMER: This trade can’t be completed until December 15th, as Gabe Vincent was signed by LA this offseason and isn’t eligible to be traded until December 15th.

According to an NBA executive, the Lakers wouldn’t be willing to part with a first-round pick. However, if they want to acquire Caruso, it will take one. A compromise would be to make it a pick swap and include a young player like Hood-Schifino.

This could be enticing for the Bulls as they get a young rookie guard who can develop. Hood-Schifino was drafted by the Lakers with the 17th overall pick.

Vincent could be a player that they keep as a role player at guard, or they could flip him to another team for more assets.

This trade allows LA to retain their future draft capital and add an elite defender at guard.

The 29-year-old guard left the Lakers in the 2021 offseason, as they didn’t match the offer he received from the Bulls. This is a mistake that the front office has grown to regret, as he is a highly impactful player.

While a Laker, Caruso was a crucial part of the 2020 championship team. Since departing from the team, he earned All-NBA Defensive First Team Honors in the 2022-23 season.

Caruso would be an upgrade at the guard spot whether they opted to start him or have him come off the bench. The Lakers’ best perimeter defender this season has been Cam Reddish, who has played exceptionally well. Jarred Vanderbilt will also be impactful in that role once he returns; however, outside of those two, it’s a steep drop-off in perimeter defense.

Injuries have been challenging in LA's season, as their best defenders have missed time. Trading for Caruso would give them an elite point-of-attack defender to slow down star guards. Darvin Ham's group has struggled to defend against Tyrese Maxey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this week.

Adding another elite perimeter defender in Caruso could propel the Lakers to have one of the best defenses in the league.

Caruso is averaging 10/3/2 this season with 1.5 steals and almost a block per game. He is shooting a very efficient 53.7% from the field and 47.5% from three.

He has excellent chemistry with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, making him a great trade target for the team. If Rob Pelinka wants to upgrade the guard spot and improve the perimeter defense, he should call the Bulls to bring Caruso back to LA.

  • Great trade. A great follow-up that would guarantee a championship would be to trade dlo , rui , and the 2029 pick for Kyrie in January. Starters: Kyrie, Caruso, Vando, Bron, AD ; Bench Reaves, Prince, Reddish, Wood, Hayes
