Hood-Schifino’s Summer Success and G-League Dominance
While in his rookie season, Hood-Schifino delivered strong performances with the South Bay Lakers, averaging 24/5/6. Though these numbers came at the G-League level, they offer a glimpse of his potential impact in a more limited role with the Lakers.
With solid performances from Gabe Vincent and starting point guard D’Angelo Russell, earning a spot in the rotation won’t come easy. However, what sets Hood-Schifino apart is his size and length.
At 6’6″ with a 6’10” wingspan, he provides a physical advantage that could appeal to the coaching staff, especially when defending bigger guards.
Hood-Schifino’s Versatility and Defensive Potential
Offensively, Hood-Schifino is an efficient slasher, ranking in the 94th percentile in free-throw rate (FTr). Though he’s still in the developmental phase of his career, his shot selection and poise on the floor are areas that can make an immediate impact.
With the regular season fast approaching, the Lakers will be watching closely to see if Jalen Hood-Schifino can carve out a role in what will be a competitive battle for rotation minutes.
His length, defensive potential, and ability to get to the line could give him an edge as he continues to grow within the system.
