Victor Wembanyama Dominates, Lakers Lose in Blowout Fashion to Spurs
In case you didn’t tune in, there wasn’t much to be satisfied with as the Lakers took on the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night.
Without Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, Deandre Ayton, and Marcus Smart, the Lakers looked clueless going against one of the league’s best.
Los Angeles dropped their second straight game with a final score of 136-108.
Lakers find no answer to Victor Wembanyama
San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama nearly outscored the entire Lakers team in the first quarter, dropping 25 of his 40 points.
This alone can help describe how the game went.
Los Angeles was down the entire game, and the Lakers didn’t give fans much to feel satisfied about.
By halftime, the Spurs were on pace to score 168 points, but thankfully, San Antonio rested their starters in the final 12 minutes.
This allowed the Lakers to chip away at the Spurs’ lead, which reached up to 41 points.
With most of the star power missing, several of LA’s role players gained much-needed experience.
Every player who was active for the Lakers logged playing time in this one. However, there wasn’t anyone who really stuck out.
Head coach JJ Redick is still searching for more role players to step up. Tonight’s outcome fell short on that assignment.
Luke Kennard and Drew Timme lead the way in points scored
The team-high for points scored on the night was Luke Kennard and Drew Timme. Each of them scored 14.
Jaxson Hayes followed with 13 points, and Bronny James logged a season-high of 12 points.
Los Angeles’ offense wasn’t a problem in this one, shooting 48% (41-85) from the field.
Defensive struggles continue to stick out like a sore thumb. The Lakers allowed the Spurs to shoot 57% (52-92) from the field.
The Spurs won every team statistic besides three-point percentage in this one.
Los Angeles will have one more chance to flip their momentum before the All-Star break. On Thursday, they will take on the Dallas Mavericks.
