Austin Reaves Drops 51 as Lakers Defeat Kings
Austin Reaves scored a career-high 51 points tonight in Sacramento as the Lakers beat the Kings 127-120 to move to 2-1 on the season.

Reaves Takes Over
With Luka Doncic and LeBron James both out, Reaves completely took over the offense. He finished with 51 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in 39 minutes, shooting efficiently from everywhere on the floor. He hit six threes, attacked the basket at will, and went 21/22 from the free-throw line.
Fans are calling it “the Austin Reaves game,” and they weren’t exaggerating. Every time Sacramento made a push, Reaves answered with a big shot or got to the line to keep the Lakers in control.
Ayton Holds it Down Inside
Deandre Ayton continued his strong start to the year with 22 points and 15 rebounds. His chemistry with Reaves looked like it’s improved a lot, too. The Lakers dominated inside, outscoring the Kings 54-46 in the paint and winning in rebounding 47-40.
Rui Hachimura added 18 points, and Marcus Smart finished with 11 points, five assists, and three steals. Jarred Vanderbilt and Smart provided defensive energy all night, slowing down Sacramento’s wings and forcing tough shots.
Controlling the Tempo
The Lakers were great on both ends. They shot 48.8 percent from the field and 89 percent from the free throw line, going 41/46 overall. Even with 17 turnovers, we made up for it.
JJ Redick’s rotations also looked more in sync than they did earlier this week. The ball movement was clean, and the team chemistry continues to build with each game.

The Lakers improve to 2-1 and return home to face the Portland Trailblazers tomorrow in LA.
