Austin Reaves is the Most Efficient Guard of All-Time

Last night, we got to see the Los Angeles Lakers’ big three take the stage together for the first time. Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, and Waker Kessler looked outstanding together. The headlines rightfully went mainly towards Kessler for his insane stat line and Luka for his antics, but an incredible statistic for Austin Reaves got lost in the shuffle.

He put up an impressive 23 points on his usual stellar efficiency. It wasn’t just last night, though. When you look at his entire career, you realize how efficient he really is. The most efficient ever by the numbers, in fact.

Austin Reaves’ Numbers Don’t Lie

One of the best parts of AR’s game is and has always been his efficiency. From the time he was an undrafted rookie, his pace and understanding of the game around him have always impressed. The scary thing is that he seemingly keeps getting better year after year.

Entering his sixth season, you are starting to see the stacking effect of his good decision-making and shot-making as well. He’s been so stellar that he has silently become the most efficient guard in NBA history.

Reaves now holds a true shooting percentage of 63%, which is the highest by a guard of all time. True shooting percentage is calculated by dividing total points scored by two times the sum of field goal attempts and .44 times free throw attempts.

Essentially, it’s a shooting percentage for your two-pointers, three-pointers, and free throws combined. An all-encompassing statistic regarding shooting as a whole.

If you’re reading this, you likely know Austin Reaves’ story. An undrafted player who was raised in a small town in Arkansas who has had to prove himself every step of the way. Regardless of how good you’ve thought he was at any point, I’m sure that not many people saw this coming six years ago.

The Los Angeles Lakers could not have gotten luckier with Austin Reaves, and Lakers fans are awfully thankful he’s in Purple and Gold.
