Jeanie Buss Selling Lakers to Dodgers owner Mark Walter for $10 Billion
Jeanie Buss and the Buss family are selling the majority stake of the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter for $10 billion, the largest sale of a professional sports franchise in the world.
Walter is the CEO and chairman of diversified holding company TWG Global. Walter is also the controlling owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and has been a minority owner of the Lakers since 2021.
Walter has been a minority stakeholder in the Lakers since 2021 and has interests in multiple professional sports organizations, including the LA Dodgers, WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, the Billie Jean Cup, Cadillac Formula 1 team and the Professional Women’s Hockey League. https://t.co/mgZkxcdXnp

The Buss family has owned the Lakers since 1979, when Jerry Buss bought the team. They led the team through the Showtime era with Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the Kobe and Shaq era, and the LeBron era.
Walter has proven a willingness to spend a lot of money as the owner of the Dodgers, which could translate to the Lakers spending more to build a winning team around Luka Doncic.
This is a seismic change, and it will be interesting to see what changes the Lakers make under their new owner, Mark Walter.
