Kevin Love Has Interest in Joining the Lakers

At the moment, the Lakers’ roster seems to be set in place. Lakers President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka has stated on multiple occasions that the team is always seeking ways to improve the roster. According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, one name that has been mentioned recently is UCLA alum Kevin Love.

Love was dealt earlier this summer to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal with the Miami Heat and the LA Clippers, based around John Collins. Ever since being dealt, the expectation has been that Love will be bought out and join a contender. With his career winding down, that makes the most sense.

Last season with the Heat, Love played only 23 games and finished the season averaging 5.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. He also shot 35.8% from three-point range last season.

Along with the Lakers, the Clippers and Knicks have been teams that have caught Love’s attention. The Lakers seem like the ideal fit due to the relationship that Love has with former teammate LeBron James.

The Lakers and Clippers are both currently hard-capped by the first apron. The only way for Love to join either team would be for one of them to make a roster move.

What Would Love’s Role Be?

Kevin Love will be entering his 18th season this upcoming year. Unless your name is LeBron James, those later years are not kind to you. In a situation where the Lakers made room for Love, nobody should be expecting a high level of play.

If Love joined the team, he would fill the role that Markieff Morris or Jared Dudley had in previous seasons. He is an experienced veteran with championship experience, which can definitely be a valuable asset to this team, as well as a mentor to some of the young players currently on the team.

We will see where Love goes in the next few weeks and if the Lakers have any more moves up their sleeve. If the Lakers choose to pass on Love, he would make an excellent addition to the Unction over in Inglewood.
