Lakers 2024-2025 Player Preview: LeBron James

LeBron James had a very memorable and busy off-season. He signed a two-year, $104 million max extension to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers and capped off his summer by securing a gold medal with Team USA, earning FIBA MVP honors.

At 39, most players are winding down, but LeBron? He’s still setting the standard. Last season, he suited up for 71 games—an impressive feat for anyone, let alone someone in their 21st NBA season.

He averaged 25.7 points per game and shot a career-best 41% from deep, taking more than five threes a game.

LeBron has no signs of slowing down. When asked about his body holding up, he confidently said, “I had a great summer. My body responded very well. I feel really good physically, and really sharp mentally.”

Olympic Gold Medal

Looking ahead, we can expect another standout season from LeBron. His dominant performance during the Olympics is evidence of that.

James led Team USA in rebounds, assists, and steals, finishing second in scoring, all while helping secure the gold medal and earning the FIBA MVP trophy. He looked healthy, focused, and ready to compete at the highest level.

LeBron and Bronny James

But this season brings something even bigger for LeBron—history.

The Lakers drafted his son, Bronny James, in the second round, setting the stage for a potential father-son duo on the court, something we’ve never seen in NBA history. For LeBron, it’s not just about chasing another ring; it’s about living out a dream.

He reflected on the moment during media day, saying, “It’s pure joy. To come to work and grind with your son, pushing each other—it’s a dream come true for me and a special moment for our whole family.”

There’s a new energy around LeBron this season. He’s not just physically ready to keep competing at the highest level; mentally, he seems refreshed, excited, and locked in.

With a familiar roster around him and a new coaching staff eager for success, this could be one of the most thrilling chapters of LeBron’s career. And if he’s this pumped for the season, you better believe we should all be, too.
