Lakers Defeat Kings 113-100 in Dominant Performance
Davis Delivers 20-20 Performance
The Los Angeles Lakers secured a 113-100 victory over the Sacramento Kings, marking only the fourth time this season that the Kings have scored 100 points or fewer.
Anthony Davis had a monster game, registering his 15th career 20-20 performance, further solidifying his case for an All-Defensive First Team spot. Davis contributed 6 blocks defensively and was a major offensive force, attempting 20 shots and converting on 7 of them.
His all-around dominance was a key factor in the Lakers’ success. Notably, Davis is now 2-10 head-to-head against Domantas Sabonis, with both of his victories coming this season.
Russell and Vincent Step Up
D’Angelo Russell took full advantage of a favorable matchup against Keon Ellis, known for his gritty defense, being aggressive throughout the game.
Russell was a driving force for the Lakers’ offense, breaking down Sacramento’s defense and contributing to the team’s flow.
This was arguably Gabe Vincent’s best game of the season, as he was sharp defensively, moving quickly on his feet, while also contributing offensively.
Vincent finished with 12 points, shooting 4-of-5 from the field, including some crucial, heavily contested rainbow threes.
Fox Falls Short Amid Strong Defense
De’Aaron Fox, who is tied for 13th in the NBA in fourth-quarter points with an average of 6.8, showed signs of life late in the game, shooting 3-of-5 in the period.
However, his performance wasn’t enough as he committed 4 turnovers, most of which were forced by Max Christie’s excellent defense.
Fox finished the game with a rough 7-of-17 shooting performance, highlighting the Lakers’ defensive efforts.
JJ Redick Returns to the Sideline
With Darvin Ham no longer at the helm, JJ Redick returned to the Lakers’ coaching staff for this matchup.
Redick opted to keep D’Angelo Russell on the floor for extended minutes early in the fourth quarter, deviating from the usual rotation.
The lineup was slightly different for most of the game, but the Lakers’ familiar starting five, featuring D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reeves, Rui Hachimura, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James, helped close out the game with a strong finish.
Lakers’ Dominance on the Boards
One of the game’s biggest advantages for the Lakers was their dominance on the boards.
Los Angeles secured 15 offensive rebounds to Sacramento’s 4, helping to limit the Kings’ second-chance opportunities and create more opportunities on offense.
Bench Scoring Contributes to Victory
Bench scoring continues to be an element the Lakers have struggled with this season.
However, the reserves stepped up in this game, contributing 30 points, which played a crucial role in the team’s success.
Lakers in a Three-Way Tie for 7th Seed
With the win, the Lakers are now in a three-way tie for the 7th seed with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns.
However, this won’t be the end of the matchup against Sacramento, as the two teams are set to face off twice more in the next 9 days—on December 21st at 3:00 PM and December 28th at 7:30 PM.
