Lakers Discussing Trade for Utah Jazz Forward John Collins
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly in talks with the Utah Jazz to acquire forward John Collins, a move that could address several of the team’s glaring needs.
Collins, who has averaged 16 points and eight rebounds over his eight-year NBA career, brings a blend of athleticism, versatility, and interior presence that could complement the Lakers’ current roster.
On the defensive end, Collins has shown the ability to switch onto guards and hold his own in isolation situations—an area where the Lakers struggled last season. His rebounding is another asset, especially for a team that often gave up second-chance points due to a lack of size and physicality in the paint.

Offensively, Collins could thrive alongside Luka Dončić, functioning as a dangerous lob threat in pick-and-roll sets. His athleticism and ability to finish around the rim would give the Lakers a vertical spacer similar to the dynamic Dončić had with big men during his Finals run in Dallas.
While Collins’ recent injury history is a concern—he played just 40 games in the 2024–25 season—it could also work to the Lakers’ advantage. His reduced availability may lower his trade value, potentially allowing the Lakers to acquire him without sacrificing key future assets.
At 27, Collins is still young enough to grow with the team’s core. He shouldn’t be a player the Lakers overextend themselves for, but if they can strike a deal while keeping their foundation intact, John Collins could be a high-reward addition who helps both now and in the seasons to come.
