Lakers Expected to Show Interest in Malcolm Brogdon

With the league now roughly a week into free agency, the big splash signings are dwindling, and the gaps are being filled with remaining players. For the Lakers, that looks like landing one more big man and some other solid defensive role players.

Today, Jake Fischer reported that the Lakers are among the teams interested in Malcolm Brogdon. At 32 years of age, Brogdon may not perfectly fit the Luka timeline, but his skill set certainly suits this team.

As previously mentioned, several teams will be pursuing Brogdon. Many will likely offer larger roles, so it will come down to his desire to compete for championships.

Lakers Fit With Malcolm Brogdon

When looking at a player like Brogdon, you can say that there are other, more pressing needs. When you dig into the stats, though, Brogdon would help on many levels.

Brogdon isn’t an all-world player, but he can be compared to a player like Gabe Vincent in this scenario. While Vincent is more prone to creating turnovers, thanks to Brogdon’s size, his versatility is much better.

Offensively, Brogdon shines. In 2024-25, Brogdon averaged 12.7 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 4.1 APG. He is truly capable of successfully running a second unit, which was a fatal flaw for LA last season. The second unit, in general, for most of the season, was putrid.

According to CraftedNBA, Brogdon is in the 85th percentile for offensive creation and the 83rd percentile in passer rating.

Needing Luka, LeBron, or Reaves to help run the second unit would no longer be an issue. The Wizards are open to a sign-and-trade for Brogdon, so if the team could pull off Gabe Vincent for Brogdon straight up, Los Angeles, I’m sure, would do that in a heartbeat.

With the type of player Brogdon is and the last contract he’s coming off of ($22 million / year), it could be challenging to land the guard given the Lakers’ limited assets. This will certainly be a situation to monitor moving forward, though.
