Lakers improve to 3-0 with win over Kings
The Los Angeles Lakers picked up their third straight win to start the season. The Lakers came away with a 131-127 win, surviving multiple offensive explosions from the Kings.
Lakers three-point shooting
The Lakers had a second-straight night of efficient shooting from behind the arc. They shot 14/34 on the night (41.2%), with LeBron James leading the way with four triples.
D’Angelo Russell had his best game of the season, knocking down three triples. Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Dalton Knecht all hit two threes, while Davis hit the dagger three-pointer in the final minutes of the game.
In JJ Redick’s system, three-point shooting is emphasized. With back-to-back nights of efficient shooting, the Lakers are reaping the benefits, and it’s translating into wins.

Anthony Davis’ continued dominance
Anthony Davis continued his dominance to start off the season. Davis finished with a line of 31/9/2 with three steals and two blocks.
Davis has seen a usage rate of over 30% in all three games, showing the Lakers designing their system around him. The way Davis is playing on both ends of the floor has made him an MVP frontrunner to start the 2024-25 campaign.
LeBron James fourth quarter takeover
With the Lakers trailing by seven entering the fourth quarter, LeBron James took it upon himself to take over.
James rattled off 16 points within the fourth quarter’s first four and a half minutes. The 39-year-old finished with his first triple-double of the season with a line of 32/14/10.
James echoed the depth and construction of this roster, highlighting the luxury of having an MVP candidate in Davis, along with quality scorers in Reaves, Russell, and Hachimura.
After the game, James said, “So this team is not built for me to have 16-point quarters through all four quarters. That’s not how it’s constructed and nor should it be. We’re a team, and we all play together.”
While James may not need to take over the fourth on a regular basis, he proved that even in year 22, he can still get it done.
The Lakers now move on to preparing for their first road game on Monday against the Phoenix Suns.
