Lakers looking for second-straight win against the Bulls

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to face off against the Chicago Bulls. The last time these two teams met, Chicago blew out the Lakers at home and spoiled the return of LeBron James and Rui Hachimura.

The Lakers are coming off a dramatic win against the Indiana Pacers, where LeBron James got the game-winning buzzer-beater. Los Angeles hopes to continue the momentum as they head to Chicago on a back-to-back and wish to get their revenge against the Bulls.

Defense

One of the main reasons the Lakers lost to the Bulls in the last matchup was how poor their defense was; some might say it was their worst defensive performance of the season.

The Lakers’ defense has been a concern over the past couple of games, but Los Angeles allowed Chicago to score 146 points and shoot 58.3% from the field during their last match. Most of Chicago’s points also came from paint, which was 74.

Turnovers

Another area where the Lakers struggled was turning the ball, where they committed 21 turnovers and allowed Chicago to score 27 points off those turnovers and 30 points on the fastbreak.

Los Angeles has slightly improved those turnovers in recent games, where they had 11 against the Magic and 15 last night against the Pacers. Reducing turnovers is essential if the Lakers want to maintain possession.

Bulls Three-point shooting

The Chicago Bulls are a high-volume three-point shooting team, shooting 36.7% from outside the arc and making 15.6 3-pointers per game. When they played the Lakers, they shot 46.3% from three and made 19, which is way above their league averages.

Players like Coby White, Matas Buzelis, and Nikola Vucevic must be on the Lakers’ radar as they have to prioritize their defense on them, especially since the Bulls are at home, where they could feel comfortable.

The focus and abilities on improving defense, limiting turnovers, and containing the three-point shooting will be vital if the Lakers want to get a victory. A win will be crucial in moving up in the standings and making a playoff push.
