Anthony Davis Posts Another MVP Performance
With LeBron James out due to illness, Anthony Davis stepped up big time for his team. Davis flirted with a triple-double, putting up 36 points to go along with 15 rebounds, eight assists, and a game-high +21.
Davis did it all while shooting an efficient 12/16 from the field and 11/13 from the line. The 35-point total is his highest since December 15th, when he had 40 against the Grizzlies.
Red Hot Team Shooting
The Lakers posted one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season, shooting a blistering 59% from the field and 53% from three on 26 attempts.
Standout shooters from deep included Rui Hachimura (4/5) and Max Christie (3/5). The Lakers also made 26 of their 33 free throws, more than doubling the Kings total.
Austin Reaves’s Playmaking Continues to Shine
Austin Reaves has been having a career dishing the ball, and that continued as he posted a career-high 16 assists, including 8 of those coming on Anthony Davis buckets.
Reaves continues to emerge as a primary and trusted ball handler for the Purple and Gold, which holds a lot of value in games where the Lakers are shorthanded. Reaves is now up to over five assists per game on the season.
The Lakers are now 18-13 and tied for the 5th seed with the crosstown rival Clippers. The Lakers’ next game will be the final game of the 2024 calendar year, as they take on the 27-4 Cavaliers on New Year’s Eve.
The Cavs have the best record in the NBA, which makes the upcoming game very difficult. The Lakers will need LeBron James to return if they want to build on their winning streak.
