Lakers Remain Undefeated at Home
The Los Angeles Lakers continue to impress on their home court, defeating the Toronto Raptors 123 to 103 on Sunday.
While Toronto led for a good portion of the matchup, Los Angeles turned the game around in the 2nd half, outscoring the opponent by 22 points. They visibly played with more energy down the stretch and improved their rebounding and defensive effort significantly.
While the Lakers were favored by 11 points prior to the game, this is still a great win to build momentum at the beginning of the season.
Slow Start Due to Rebounding and Effort
The Lakers got off to a slow start, losing the first quarter 34 to 26 and falling behind by 10 in the 2nd quarter. They were able to cut the lead to two by halftime, ending the first half with back-to-back threes by Reddish and Russell.
The Lakers were outrebounded 26-11 in the first half. The lack of effort was evident for stretches as the team allowed 12 fast break points and 32 points in the paint. Davis should dominate the paint, as the Raptors lacked any real threat from their bigs.
Anthony Davis Continues His MVP Start
Despite leaving midway through the 3rd quarter due to an eye injury, Davis finished with 22 points and two blocks. Davis’ injury did not appear to be serious, though it will be something to monitor in the coming days.

James and Reaves Impress
After Davis left the game, James and Reaves increased their offensive output. LeBron posted his 3rd triple-double of the season and his 2nd in a row, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and an impressive 16 assists.
Reaves led all scorers with 27 points on 10-17 shooting. He also showcased his playmaking abilities with this thrilling behind-the-back assist.
Redick’s Lineup Change Proving Beneficial
Since becoming a starter, Reddish has settled into his role well. He contributed 11 points and provided a needed defensive presence in the starting lineup.
Russell has given the bench a scoring punch, contributing 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting and a +18 plus-minus. Redick’s decision appears to be paying off well, as it has contributed to two wins so far.
Lakers Bench Provides Much Needed Boost
The Lakers bench scored 40 points and outscored the Raptors bench by 11 points. They helped turn the game around in the second half, led by Jaxson Hayes. Stepping up in Davis’ absence, Hayes contributed an impressive +21 plus-minus, the highest on the team.
Looking Ahead
The Lakers are now 5-0 at home and 6-4 on the season. They will get another shot at the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night at home. It will be interesting to see how Reddish’s insertion into the starting lineup will affect the outcome of this matchup.
