Lakers Waive Guard Shake Milton to Clear Cap Space
The Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard Shake Milton. Milton’s $3 million contract for the 2025-26 season was set to become fully guaranteed today.
Milton appeared in 30 games for the Lakers, averaging 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. He shot 43.3% from the field and 29.4% from three.
By waiving Shake Milton, the Lakers have created the roster spot they needed for Marcus Smart. LA still needs to clear about $1.2 million in cap space to sign Smart to the two-year $11 million deal.

The Lakers can accomplish this by waiving Jordan Goodwin. However, by waiving Goodwin and signing Smart, they would not have enough space to sign a 15th player to the roster.
Rob Pelinka and the front office have made a few moves this offseason, signing Jake LaRavia, Deandre Ayton, and Smart. However, there is more work to be done as they continue to build around Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James.
