LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers Era Comes to a Close
It was announced today that LeBron James’ eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers will officially come to a close this season. A shocking revelation, but also one that many Lakers fans saw coming.
Shams Charania reported that LeBron will continue his NBA career in the 2026-27 season and informed LA that the team could move on without them. In what looks to likely be his final season in the league, his farewell tour will be elsewhere.

The timing makes a lot of sense as the Lakers are clearly moving into their next era led by Luka Dončić. It still feels strange as he’s been a part of the franchise for nearly a decade. James’ eight years in Los Angeles were the longest stay with any franchise throughout his career. Over those eight years, James gave Lakers fans more memories than they’ll know what to do with.
From resurrecting a dying star in the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, to bringing them an NBA Title in just his second season, to breaking the NBA’s All-Time scoring record in Purple and Gold, to being the first father to ever play with his son in the NBA. From posterizing dunks to ‘Le*uck you threes’, it was always a show.
It’s unknown where his next step will take him, but wherever it is, he’ll have the vast majority of Lakers Nation behind him.
