LeBron James Suffers Disappointing Injury Update

LeBron James is entering his 23rd season in the NBA and his 8th year with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, James will not be suiting up on opening night, as he will be re-evaluated in approximately 3-4 weeks due to sciatica on his right side.

James is coming off an incredible season where he averaged 24/8/8 on 51/38/78 shooting splits. The 40-year-old finished 6th in MVP voting.

While James’s injury is disappointing for the Lakers, it’s better to come earlier in the season than as the playoffs approach. LA acquired its franchise superstar, Luka Doncic, in a trade in February, and he can carry the Purple and Gold through the regular season.

Doncic is one of the MVP favorites, and after an offseason focused on getting in better shape, he could have his best season yet.

The Lakers also have Austin Reaves, who has developed into a great player. Reaves is coming off a career year where he averaged 20/5/5 on 46/38/88 shooting splits. Early in the season, the Lakers will rely on Doncic and Reaves to carry the offense.

JJ Redick will also turn to role players like Rui Hachimura and new additions Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia to play key roles early in the season.

With James out to start the season, LA will need to figure out what its starting lineup looks like without him.

However, as long as LeBron James is at full strength in the playoffs, it gives the Lakers their best chance to win their 18th championship in franchise history.
