Short-handed Lakers win fifth game in a row against the Clippers

The Los Angeles Lakers won a hard-fought game against the Los Angeles Clippers 106-102. The Lakers have shown their ability to adjust, especially after losing two starters to injury and being on the second night of a back-to-back game.

The Lakers close the month of February with a 10-2 record and winning their fifth straight game. It is also their sixth straight game where they held their opponent to 102 points or fewer.

Luka Doncic led the team with 31 points and five assists, while LeBron James supplied 28 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Goodwin and Jarred Vanderbilt played essential roles, with Goodwin providing energy and Vanderbilt disrupting defensively.

The Lakers faced issues with Rui Hachimura being ruled out before the game. Austin Reaves also left the game early with calf soreness. Despite this, the team’s depth shined through, clinching a victory.

First Quarter

The Clippers took an early lead, finishing the first quarter 25-24. However, the Lakers launched a dramatic comeback in the last 7:54, outscoring the Clippers 17-8, establishing the tone for their tenacity. LeBron James led the way with seven points, followed by Austin Reaves with six and Luka Doncic with five.

Second Quarter

After only playing for nine minutes, Austin Reaves did not return due to right calf soreness. Reaves is slated for an MRI on Saturday, adding another stater to the team’s injuries. At halftime, LeBron James put up 10 points, and Luka Doncic scored six points, three assists, and three steals, demonstrating their early effect.

Third Quarter

The Lakers extended the lead to 83-77 in the third quarter with standout defensive performances from Jordan Goodwin and Jarred Vanderbilt, who was recognized for being “disruptive defensively.”

By this point, LeBron James had 21 points and nine rebounds, while Luka Doncic also had 21 points, demonstrating their rising importance.

Fourth Quarter

The fourth quarter was a tough contest, with the Clippers making a brutal attempt to reduce the deficit. The Clippers answered quickly with an 8-0 run to keep the game close, but a couple of steals led to two easy baskets for the Lakers in transition.

The Lakers’ defense came through down the stretch, forcing key turnovers on Harden to help seal a significant win.
