The perfect Lakers trade offer for Wendell Carter Jr.

In this quiet offseason for the Lakers, the latest trade rumor beams on Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr.

General manager Rob Pelinka has been unusually silent regarding free agency and trades this offseason.

Consequently, the Lakers are one of the few teams in the NBA that has not acquired any new players.

However, if they manage to secure the young and talented Wendell Carter Jr. from the Magic, it could ignite significant momentum for the team. Here’s a proposed trade package that could make this happen:

Lakers Wendell Carter Jr. trade offer

Magic receive: Jalen Hood-Schifino, Gabe Vincent, and a 2029 first-round pick
Lakers receive: Wendell Carter Jr.

This deal could bring Carter Jr. to the Lakers, where he would be an excellent fit as the starting center alongside Anthony Davis.

At 25 years old, Carter Jr. averaged 11/7/2 while posting an impressive true shooting percentage of 62.3%.

Standing at 6’10” and 270 pounds, he is physically imposing, mobile, and capable of stretching the floor. Last season, he shot 37.4% from three-point range. This unique skill set can help create open lanes and post-up opportunities for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

For the Magic, this gives them a young and raw prospect in Jalen Hood-Schifino, who can develop and thrive in Orlando’s system.

Additionally, they acquired Gabe Vincent, an experienced 3&D guard who could help develop the young guards on their team. The key component in this trade is the 2029 first-round pick, providing the Magic with the draft capital necessary to justify the trade.

However, Carter Jr. is the Magic’s starting center, making a deal for him tougher to execute.

Furthermore, this trade would open up roster spots for the Lakers. Currently, their roster is full with 15 players.

This move would save money and open up the taxpayer mid-level exception (TPMLE). With LeBron James’ pay cut, the Lakers successfully went under the second apron.

This financial flexibility would allow them to sign impactful free agents like Tyus Jones or even bring back Lonnie Walker IV.

Adding players of this caliber and trading for Carter Jr. could elevate the Lakers to true contender status. However, it’s unlikely that Pelinka and the front office will complete a deal.

Carter Jr. could significantly bolster the Lakers’ roster, providing them with a versatile young center who complements their current stars. Meanwhile, the Magic gain potential future assets and young talent to continue building their young core.

This trade could finally fill the void of a capable center that the Lakers have sought for years.
