Lakers put on atrocious performance against the Timberwolves

The Lakers put on their worst performance of the season, as they lost 109-80 on the road in Minnesota. Los Angeles struggled on offense throughout the game, with no one besides D’Angelo Russell finding a rhythm.

With that in mind, here are three takeaways from the Lakers’ loss to the Timberwolves.

Lakers poor offense

LA’s offense struggled, putting up their lowest amount of points this season with 80. Russell played well, finishing with 20 points, and shot 8-12 from the field and 4-5 from three.

After the game, LeBron James said, “We’re just not good offensively right now. I think we’ve been so focused on our defense that it took a toll and our offense took a back seat.”

JJ Redick and the coaching staff have some work to do to get the offense going again.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis’s struggles

When both stars struggle on offense, it’s going to be tough for the LakeShow to get a win. James finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, shooting 4-16 from the floor and 0-4 from deep. The 39-year-old also had six turnovers, leading to offensive struggles.

Davis played well in the first quarter but struggled after that point. The 31-year-old big man finished with 12 points and shot 4-14 from the field.

After the game, Davis stated, “We had games where we were phenomenal and we had games where we were disgusting like tonight.”

The Lakers will need their stars to play well in order to bounce back.

Lakers’ defense on Anthony Edwards

One positive to take away from the loss is their defense on star guard Anthony Edwards. Edwards only had eight points and shot an inefficient 3-13 from the floor and 1-5 from behind the arc.

LA threw the young superstar different coverages, forcing him into difficult shots. However, limiting Edwards was not enough for the Purple and Gold to get a win.

The Lakers will continue their road trip with a game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday.
