Lakers Secure a Commanding 2-0 Lead Against Rockets
Tonight, your Los Angeles Lakers took on the Houston Rockets in Game 2 of the opening round of the playoffs. They had an outstanding opportunity tonight to secure a 2-0 lead. Obviously, the major headline of the entire series is the absence of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, so the Lakers would have to be great again tonight to do that.
After an outstanding game one from LeBron and company, the Lakers needed to bring the same energy tonight. That’s exactly what they did.

LeBron James is Still Mesmerizing
It almost feels tacky at this point to mention his age. Yes, clearly he’s 41 in case you’ve missed every commentator mentioning it every game this season.
That didn’t stop him tonight from reactivating the same playoff nightmare that we’ve seen now for twenty-plus years. Similar to Game 1, James took his time getting others involved in the first quarter. After that, he didn’t look back.
He was great from the line, shooting 10/14 on his way to an incredible 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. He had some outstanding highlights along the way, including an absurd reverse windmill dunk in which his head was almost at the rim.
If the Lakers had to rely on any player to keep them afloat without Dončić and Reaves, thank god it’s LeBron James.
Lakers Supporting Cast vs Rockets
Yet again, we saw another outstanding performance from the Lakers’ role players tonight.
In game one, Luke Kennard and Marcus Smart combined for 42 points. Tonight, the duo combined for a total of 48 points with an insane first quarter from both. They hit threes in massive moments and were part of a swarming defense from Los Angeles tonight.
The Lakers’ two big men certainly did their jobs as well. Deandre Ayton was giving out posters like they were candy tonight, and Jaxson Hayes was a perfect energy guy all night long.
On the flipside, the Rockets were not as fortunate. The only bench player who scored for Houston tonight was Josh Okogie with 7. Reed Sheppard, who was great in Game 1, was held scoreless tonight.
This has to do in part with Kevin Durant returning to the lineup tonight, but the Lakers seemed to have the perfect game plan for him, much like they did in the regular season. If Houston wants to avoid a sweep, it’ll need more production from the entire roster back in Houston.
What’s Next?
These two teams will face off next in Game 3 on Friday. It’s still unlikely that we’ll see either Dončić or Reaves return by then, as they’re still listed as out indefinitely, so it’ll be the same teams matching up.
For the Lakers, if they can steal even one of these next two games in Houston, that will all but secure a first-round victory. With two days of rest until Game 3, hopefully, LeBron and company will be well rested and ready to rise to the occasion.
