Lakers sign general manager Rob Pelinka to a contract extension
The Los Angeles Lakers have extended general manager Rob Pelinka, adding a new title as president of basketball operations.
Pelinka has reshaped the Lakers’ future over the last year. He fired Darvin Ham as head coach last offseason and brought in JJ Redick to replace him.
Redick won 50 games in his first season as the head coach and led LA to the third seed in the Western Conference.
Pelinka hired Redick as the Lakers new coach last offseason, and made the signature Luka Doncic acquisition in February. The Lakers are set up with a face of the franchise for the next 10 years, flexibility and assets this upcoming offseason, and organizational alignment. https://t.co/wweNEycFUx

Pelinka also pulled off a trade for what is considered by many to be the biggest in NBA history, acquiring Luka Doncic. The deal sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick for Doncic, Markieff Morris, and Maxi Kleber.
Doncic is a generational player and could lead the Lakers’ franchise for the next decade.
“For eight seasons, I have relied on Rob’s vision and leadership to do what’s best for the Lakers organization,” said Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss. “I value his partnership and professionalism and believe in his ability to deliver championship-caliber basketball for Los Angeles and Lakers fans everywhere.”
Pelinka has a clear vision for the Lakers franchise and has earned his extension and promotion with the Purple and Gold.
