Lakers Win Overtime Thriller Against Rockets
Tonight, your Los Angeles Lakers traveled to face the Houston Rockets in their home arena for the first time in this first-round series. LA entered this game with a 2-0 lead in this series and an opportunity to plunge the dagger into the Rockets’ hopes.
In NBA history, teams that go down 3-0 are 0-159, and the Lakers had the chance to put the Rockets in that position. Kevin Durant was out with an ankle injury, and despite being questionable today, so was Austin Reaves.
With under a minute left, the Lakers found themselves down six to the Rockets, and the game seemed in hand. Due to multiple mistakes on Houston’s part, the Lakers scratched and clawed their way back in just in time.
In what could be viewed as a must-win for both teams, the Lakers pulled out a thriller in overtime against the Rockets.

LeBron Dominates Yet Again
What else is there to say? LeBron Ramone James. In the previous two games, LeBron had ample help from guys like Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard. Tonight, while Smart played very well, it was much more of the LeBron show. Especially down the stretch.
Despite numerous turnovers late in the 4th, LeBron took over when he was most needed and hit an incredible three-pointer to tie the game for the Lakers to go into overtime against the Rockets.
He finished with 29 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. One of those assists was an awesome, nearly half-court lob to his son, Bronny James, who played very well in his minutes.
Bronny finished with 5 points on 100% shooting from the field, including a three-pointer. His defense was solid all night, and he even got some quality 4th quarter minutes. Certainly an NBA player for those still doubting.

It was an incredible night for the James family overall.
Another Marcus Smart Masterclass
There have been some major performances for the Lakers’ patched-together “big three”. LeBron James, Marcus Smart, and Luke Kennard have been exceptional thus far, but tonight, Smart may have been the MVP.
Not only was he a scoring threat and defensive menace yet again tonight, but he was a major leader on both ends. His defense spurred energy plays from the team, and offensively, he was dishing the rock left and right.
He absolutely stuffed the statsheet in this one. Smart finished with 21 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, FIVE steals, and 2 blocks.
Houston, We Have a Problem
As I previously stated, the odds for Houston now being down 0-3 statistically could not be worse. With the Lakers holding a commanding lead and Austin Reaves likely coming back by Game 4 or possibly 5, it’s looking bleak.
Their lack of a true point guard offensively has been a thorn in their side all season without Fred VanVleet, and in this series, that issue has truly reared its ugly head.
This offseason for Houston, which seems to be coming sooner rather than later, will be imperative regarding adding another point guard. With Kevin Durant only getting older and seemingly more injury-prone, the window for this specific squad seems to be closing just as soon as it opened.
LeBron ended the last talented Houston group that had James Harden and Russell Westbrook in the bubble, and it looks like he may just do it once again.
The next game will be Sunday in Houston yet again, and for the Lakers, this one may also be a must-win as they’ll try to secure as much rest as possible before their upcoming matchup against almost certainly OKC.
