Los Angeles Lakers Sign Sandro Mamukelashvili to Four-Year Deal

Rob Pelinka and the Los Angeles Lakers are active on Wednesday morning as they have inked Sandro Mamukelashvili to a four-year, $52 million deal.

Mamukelashvili is part of the flurry of moves the Lakers have made with the trade acquisition of Walker Kessler and the signings of Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton.

Sandro Mamukelashvili’s Fit In LA

Mamukelashvili is coming off a career year, as he averaged 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three.

He is a small-ball big man who can play power forward or center, space the floor efficiently, and be a solid playmaker.

Mamukelashvili would be best as a bench player if the Lakers land starting-caliber pieces at small forward and power forward. However, he could start at the power forward alongside Kessler, providing more spacing in the lineup.

While on offense, Mamukelashvili could be solid in the starting five, his defensive fit wouldn’t be great, which is why he would be better served coming off the bench.

Pelinka and the Lakers front office have a lot more work to do, as they still need to add more rotational pieces on the wing, but don’t have any more cap room beyond two veteran minimums for their last two roster spots. That means LA will have to be creative with trades to upgrade the rest of the roster.
