Luka and the Lakers Hold Off Spurs For 5th Straight Win

The Lakers came into Wednesday’s game with four straight wins under their belt, taking on the 5-1 San Antonio Spurs.

It was a battle of two of the top teams in the Western Conference despite both teams missing key players. The Lakers were without two of their stars, Austin Reaves and LeBron James, while the Spurs were missing De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper.

The game was a back-and-forth affair that went down to the final seconds.

Luka Doncic’s Dominance

Luka Doncic had another incredible game, finishing with 35 points, nine rebounds, and 13 assists. He shot very inefficiently, making just 9 of 27 from the field, 4 of 11 from three-point range, and 13 of 17 from the free throw line.

However, he made shots when it mattered and found his open teammates. While Doncic’s offense was impactful, it was his defense that made the real difference. He had five steals and two blocks in the contest, dominating Victor Wembanyama’s stocks, as he only had one steal and one block.

This is quite a statement game for Doncic’s MVP case.

JJ Redick’s Scheme on Victor Wembanyama

Head coach JJ Redick devised a masterful gameplan to limit Wembanyama. Redick put Rui Hachimura on Wembanyama, with Deandre Ayton playing help defense on him.

This led to an inefficient game from one of the league’s best players. Wembanyama finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists on 5-14 shooting. The Lakers also forced five turnovers from Wemby and fouled him out of the game.

The scheme from Redick played a major role in LA getting the win over San Antonio.

The Near Disaster

In the final seconds, the Lakers almost blew the game. LA was up by two with just over a second left when Marcus Smart stepped over the line on an inbounds pass. This allowed the Spurs to take over, and on their second attempt, they managed to draw a foul on a lob.

However, the Lakers were still able to come away with the win as Julian Champagnie missed the free throws to tie it.

Doncic and the Lakeshow are on a roll, and they will look to continue their win streak on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks.
