Luka Doncic Scores 52 as Lakers Beat Jazz, Improve to 3-0
Luka Doncic exploded for 52 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 132-123. With this gritty road win, the Lakers improved to 3-0. However, they had to overcome a big early deficit to get there.
Lakers Rally After Slow Start
The Lakers struggled throughout the first quarter. As a result, they entered the second quarter trailing by 18 points. Utah brought more energy early and took advantage of second-chance opportunities. Meanwhile, the Jazz limited quality shots and held Los Angeles to just 36% shooting from the field.
However, Austin Reaves helped turn things around in the second quarter. He scored 15 points and went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. At the same time, the Lakers’ defense came alive. Los Angeles recorded seven steals in the quarter alone.
That defensive pressure helped fuel a huge scoring run. The Lakers outscored Utah 45-24 in the second quarter. As a result, they erased the deficit and went into halftime tied at 71-71. It was an explosive first half for both teams.
Doncic Takes Over in the Third
After the high-scoring first half, Doncic continued to dominate. By the end of the third quarter, he had 39 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. He found ways to score from all over the court and kept the Lakers within striking distance.
Still, Utah refused to back down. The Jazz continued to fight and kept the game close. Consequently, Los Angeles entered the final quarter with only a three-point lead.
Luka Doncic Seals the Win
With the game hanging in the balance, Doncic delivered when the Lakers needed him most. He knocked down back-to-back clutch three-pointers to help seal the victory. Those shots capped off an incredible 52-point performance.
Ultimately, Doncic’s late-game shot-making proved to be the difference. Although Utah battled throughout the night, the Lakers made the key plays down the stretch to secure the win.
Lakers Improve to 3-0
The Lakers showed resilience and offensive firepower in this comeback victory. After falling behind early, they responded with defensive intensity and a massive second quarter. Reaves provided a much-needed spark, while Doncic took over when it mattered most.
Next, Los Angeles will return home Tuesday to face Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland has also gotten off to a strong start, setting up another exciting matchup.
It’s shaping up to be a great week for the Purple and Gold. More importantly, the Lakers have shown they can overcome adversity and find different ways to win. If they continue to build on this early momentum, it could be a promising sign for the season ahead.
