Luka Dončić Already Outpacing LeBron James in Lakers History

Yesterday, during a Sunday matinee, the Lakers took on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake in a game that came down to the wire. The Jazz owned the 1st quarter, the Lakers won the 2nd, the 3rd was tied, and Luka took over the 4th.

Luka finished with 52 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Absolutely insane. He hit three massive deep balls in the 4th to put the nail in the coffin, too. As a Lakers fan, it felt like going to church.

This game also put him even deeper into Lakers rarified air when you tallied his numbers against history. Luka Dončić is now even beginning to pass his predecessor, LeBron James, in Lakers history.

Luka Dončić Passes LeBron James in All-Time Lakers History

It’s no secret that Luka Dončić can score the basketball. He not only scores the ball, but he does so at a rate that’s rarely been seen in NBA history. Yesterday’s game just put him further into the land of unattainable numbers.

With his 52-point performance yesterday, Dončić not only tied LeBron James for most 50-point games in Lakers history, but he also passed James in most 40-point games in Lakers history.

Dončić didn’t just tie LeBron James but also passed Wilt Chamberlain, Anthony Davis, and Shaquille O’Neal in All-Time Lakers 50-point games. These are All-Time Lakers greats.

What we’re seeing is simply not normal. Dončić also surpassed one of the most lethal scorers in NBA history, Kevin Durant, yesterday in All-Time 50-point games. He now officially has more 50-point games than 99.8% of all players in NBA history. Is that good?

The scoring was certainly impressive, and when you pair it with his passing (10 assists), he joined even more Lakers greats in history. Dončić joined Elgin Baylor and Jerry West as the only Lakers with 50 points and 10 assists in a game.

With his help, the Lakers have also scored 125 points in the first three games of the season for the first time in franchise history. He’s leading this team to a ridiculous pace and a hot 3-0 start. Very MVP-esque to start the season, if I do say so myself

Phew… alright, I think I got it all. If it seems like I just covered a lot of records broken and players passed on All-Time lists, it’s because I did.

Luka Dončić is far from finished with his work as a Laker, but if he keeps up at this pace, I find it hard to believe a statue won’t be waiting for him at the end of this road.
