Doncic followed up his 43-point, 12-rebound, 9-assist season debut by putting up 49 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. His combined 92 points in the first two games of a season is a Laker franchise record, beating out Jerry West’s old mark of 81 points, a record that had stood for over 50 years.

Doncic also connected with Deandre Ayton at a higher rate, especially in the 3rd quarter in which the Lakers scored 40 points as a team. Of Ayton’s 15 points, eight came on assists from Doncic, while half of Doncic’s assists came via dimes to the big man out of Arizona.
The Others Step Up
There was certainly some concern after opening night when it came to who else could provide offense besides Doncic and Austin Reaves. Tonight, those concerns were lessened.
In addition to Ayton’s aforementioned 15 points, Rui Hachimura had 23 points on 10/13 shooting, and the Lakers as a team shot 59% from the field and 41% from 3.
The defensive effort also picked up in large part thanks to Marcus Smart and Jarred Vanderbilt. Smart posted a team-high +24 and picked up two steals along with his numerous deflections. Vanderbilt posted a +12, two steals, two blocks, and seven rebounds.
Up Next
The Lakers improve to 1-1 on the season and will now head up north to face the 1-1 Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
The game will be the front end of a back-to-back, so it will be interesting to see how JJ Redick and his staff manage the workload of certain players.
The Lakers swept the season series against the Kings last season, and were 19-22 on the road during the 2024-2025 campaign.
