Lakers finish the season with three 20 ppg scorers

The Lakers have clinched the third seed in the tough Western Conference in JJ Redick’s first season coaching the team. They now await their first-round opponent, which will be decided today as the season concludes.

The team had a successful season and leaned heavily on LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves. This season marked the first time since 1980-81 that the Lakers had three players finish the season averaging at least 20 points per game (Doncic, LeBron, Reaves).

LeBron James

James finished his 22nd season averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. This also marked the first time since his rookie season that he has averaged less than 25 points in a season. What he has been able to do in 22 years in the league is unheard of and arguably won’t be seen again.

Luka Doncic

In a surreal move, the Lakers acquired Doncic on February 1st and have not looked back since. Doncic provided a much-needed spark to the team, despite losing a defensive asset in Anthony Davis.

He is one of the toughest matchups in the league due to his ability to shoot from deep, make tough passes, and slow down your opponent. Doncic finished his first season with the team, averaging 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.

Austin Reaves

The team’s greatest success story this season is by far Austin Reaves. This season was the first time he finished averaging 20.2 points per game. He is a dynamic scorer who can get to the basket and draw contact, along with having the ability to shoot from deep.

Reaves is a willing passer and can handle the ball, especially when Doncic or James is not on the floor. He averaged 5.8 assists per game this season, which is a career high.

The team would not be where they are now if it weren’t for these players. They have each contributed in big ways this season and will look to keep that success moving forward in the playoffs.
