Lakers look to finish the homestand strong
Tonight, your Los Angeles Lakers (39-21) will take on the New York Knicks (40-21). This will be the Lakers’ last home game before their upcoming four-game road trip. Los Angeles will be looking to secure their 8th win in a row.

The last time these two teams met, shortly after the game, the entire sports world was flipped on its head. The Lakers were fresh off an impressive victory against the Knicks in New York and without Anthony Davis.
Then, before we knew it, one of the most talented young athletes in the world was now donning the Purple and Gold.
Tonight, the Lakers will have that talented young man suiting up for them, as well as getting Austin Reaves back from injury. In what should be an exquisite game tonight, let’s break down what to look for.
Lakers defense
Over the last roughly 20 games, the Los Angeles Lakers have boasted the number-one defensive unit in the league. One might think, “Well, they gave up one of the best defensive players on the planet and, in exchange, got what many would call a defensive liability in Luka.” I was one.
Since then, JJ Redick has formulated expert-level defensive schemes without needing a legitimate big-man presence.
The team has rallied around the junkyard dogs; surprisingly, there were more than I thought. Jarred Vanderbilt, Dorian Finney-Smith, Gabe Vincent, Jordan Goodwin, and even LeBron James have set the tone of this team on that end with relentless effort.
‘Vincent Van Doe’ is the hardest nickname you’ll EVER hear for a trio of role players 🔥

Karl Anthony-Towns is set to return from injury tonight, but if the Lakers can defend him as well as they did last time, they’ll be fine.
In the previous matchup (sans Anthony Davis), Los Angeles held Kat to just 11 points on 3-11 shooting. If they can contain him again tonight, that will help immensely in securing the win.
Los Angeles has the best duo in Basketball
Since joining forces, LeBron and Luka have instilled precisely the type of fear around the league that you would’ve anticipated. The two have been absolutely incredible.
You have to pray that only one of them goes nuclear because, in the instances that they’ve both played well, there’s simply nothing you can do.

The pair of LeBron and Luka specifically love playing the Knicks. Over their careers against New York, LeBron is averaging 26.7 ppg, 7.4 apg, and 7.3 rpg, while Luka has averaged a casual 30.4 ppg, 8.6 apg, and 10.1 rpg. Expect the duo to continue putting up those gaudy numbers tonight.
Birthday Boy
Today is ex-Laker Josh Hart’s birthday, and if I’ve learned anything from watching the league, it’s that players love to ball out on their birthdays. In the previous matchup against New York, Josh Hart was easily their best player on the court.
Hart posted a 26-point triple-double by exhibiting the same rebounding, defensive behaviors, and high basketball IQ that made the Purple and Gold faithful fall in love with the young player.
Those skills have helped him carve out an incredible role in this league and have created lots of issues for Los Angeles in the past.
As much as Lakers Nation wants the best for Josh, they’re all certainly hoping the team can spoil his big day.
