Luka Dončić Passes LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Even Himself

It’s no surprise to see Luka Dončić find success on the court. Outside of an NBA Championship, Dončić has known nothing but the highest levels of success. Even so, what he’s been doing to begin this 2026-27 season is truly awe-inspiring.

He’s been the engine behind the Lakers’ hot start and has been filling the record books with his name since the start.

Luka has started the season so incredibly well that it’s starting to become a bit difficult to deny that he may be on his way to his first NBA MVP award. When you see the sort of things he’s doing statistically, he’s not only passing greats like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant; he’s even passing himself.

Luka Dončić is on Another Planet Right Now

When I give you Luka’s averages to start the year, remember: this is real life, not NBA2K. Dončić so far this season is averaging 37.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 7.3 APG on 48% from the field and 43% from three. Again, these numbers are real.

Dončić’s 37.7 PPG is the 5th most in NBA history through 6 games and the most since Michael Jordan in 1986-87. He also has the most PPG through six games in Los Angeles Lakers history. The man he passed to achieve that record? Himself.

That’s not all the Lakers history Luka set last night in a 45-point showing vs. Toronto. His eight three-pointers last night vaulted him atop the list of All-Time Lakers. Dončić now has the most games with 8+ three-pointers in Lakers history, passing both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

This article is specifically about his offensive feats, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention his five steals as well. His dedication to the defensive end this season has been noticeable and should in no way hinder him in MVP conversations if he keeps it up.

Lakers fans are watching something that may not be replicated for a very, very long time.
